    Haha. What you packin'?

I've just done exactly the same thing. Well, I actually went out to capture one for some King's Frills, but the 7 Tranq ammo I fired at it (after wearing it down) failed. I went ahead and killed it. Took quite a bit longer than that though

Is there quests online that allow me to meet some Great Jaggis?

Yeah they're some of the first quests you get access to. Did you wait until it limped off to sleep and recover before attempting a capture? Should only take a couple of tranq shots to put it to sleep after that.

All the <5* quests online are the same as the offline quests (bar one or two). There is an event quest against 4x Great Jaggi.

It's one part medium bowgun, one part fire cannon, one part great fire cannon (no idea about the names of the parts tbh).

There are some spoils you can only get online though, with stupidly low carve rates.

don't forget you need to get it in a trap before tranq rounds will work.

I didnt realise that trapping it was essential. Thanks

Thought it was optional. Yeah, I waited until it was limping back to rest.

This is my first monster hunter game, mainly becuase I tried the demo on the PSP and I died more times than I care to think about so I never bothered with the full thing.

This is great though... one question I have to ask, why do the few hardcore monster hunter gamers here seem to be obsessed with the bow gun, the bowguns seem rubbish to me....

Its like in the Demon Souls thread, everyone says its a hard game and all the people who play it alot say its all about magic but I dont use magic at all and have never found it that hard...

I have been mixing it up but to me the great swords seem the most useful and versitile so far in that they work in pretty much any situation as well as doing stupid amounts of damage.

Anyway its great but bowguns do nothing for me... that is all.

You haven't really said why you find the Bowgun to be rubbish. Do you mean it "does nothing for you" in terms of damage, find it tricky to handle, or is it the visual aspect of it that doesn't do it for you?

I dont find it tricky to handle... "boring" would be a better word i suppose. But I mainly just dont find it useful, espeicaly considering bowguns are 3 times as expensive as other weapons seem to be (at least at the stage of the game im at) and require bullets too. Ok so they help you kill things from far away but Ive been playing this for a fair few hours now and havent died once* so i'm not sure why I would need to kill things from far away.

                They just seem pointless really....

*Course I will probabaly play it tomorrow and die stright away now Ive said that.

Funny enough, I've haven't been firing from far away. Up, close and personal, just like in Kryss's video above. It is good for sniping Bnahabras. But hey, it's not for everyone!

Apologies if I'm posting a whole bunch o' noob stuff that's been said many times before. But this is so, so ace.

Still on the * quests, but even some of those are great fun. An innocent Epioth hunt (I'll be spelling most of these names incorrectly, natch), turned awesome when

                    Lagiaruca

showed up in area 10. I was right next to the guy, bombed it to the shore, and turned around at the precise moment he surfaced and gobbed a giant ball of lightning at me, which sent me flying. I then pegged it away with a comedy run animation that made me chuckle. It seems to have the same unpredictable element that made Demon's Souls great. The underwater hunting changes the pace up a treat, too.

                    So yeah...love it I do.

I'd love to play, but I don't do much gaming on a work night I will be back in action (online) come Wednesday evening onwards. Back in work the following Monday

Did you find out if you could add peeps as friends without them being online, on the same server etc?

I want to do some Great Jaggi capturing, next time I'm on. In fact any capturing.

They do have to be online so that you can add them. Not sure about server, but it isn't too hard to be on the same server. As far as cities and gates are concerned it doesn't matter.

Is it me or can you now recover from knocks by monsters? Normally taking a hit from a big monster just sends you sprawling and you're vulnerable until you recover, but I've noticed on many occasions that my hunter recovers quicker than normal by sliding or rolling out of the knock. Anyone else notice this?
