As for you not having to

DO anything, I'm not so sure. The bit where the armed guards come at you, the AI seemed to not be killing them so I was stuck there because they just weren't able to kill them! Then I get the "help" telling me to "press < to select grenade launcher" and I realise that I kinda *have* to take action

    .

I'm all for my chosen medium being taken seriously, but I didn't like it at all.
it's shock for the sake of it imoh that and the marketable 18 cert it delivers.
They will argue that it's something that is in movies, but games should strive to be more than a movie and thy is my main problem with the game. It's wanting to be the rock so badly with a few locations and the score

Omg, its friggen awesome. I've done a couple of chapters already, if i didn't have to go to work soon i'd still be playing it. Probably won't get much more time in till tomorrow afternoon.
Oh and Soap is Kevin McKidd aka Tommy from Trainspotting & Pvt. Cooper from Dog Soldiers.

Also CoD classic is an excellent silky smooth port.

I've been playing this for a fair few hours today and it's sublime. The campaign is just as good and exciting as COD4's (with a few standout moments just like it's predeccessor).

Can't think of much else to say really without spoiling it, all I can say is that it's damn good fun and I think most people will really enjoy this if you liked COD4.

I don't see why my view has made you so upset, does everyone hae to like what you like and experance games the way you did ?
Upset? Nah far from it mate, it is just a game at the end of the day. I just found your comments rather strange/baffling and sort out a discussion. No, not everyone has to like what I like and experience them the way I do. Like I said, I do like to discuss certain things though cos at the end of the day is this not what this forum is for?!

Back to the game though I guess, anyone started playing Spec-Ops yet? It's another superb addition to the game, love the scenarios/challenges.

This is going to be a hilarious question but, do I need to have played Modern Warfare to get the most out of the second?

                Hmm, probably.

The title sequence does a quick recap of the main plot points - you might miss the finer details and have the ending spoiled for you in the event you ever planned to pick up the first, but you could always Wikipedia it if you wanted to know

I've just done the first few chapters and done that mission...and so far I think that IW have created another fantastic title. This is as slick as first person shooters get, the whole package seems to be balanced to near-perfection.

So, that mission then. I had no idea what to expect having not seen any footage or commentry, so it was a massive shock. A genuine "holy ****" moment in gaming.
                    It was

handled quite cleverly within the building and I felt completely shellshocked, I don't think any gaming moment has felt so morally wrong. I let the action unfold, firing the occasional shot and then hating myself for doing so. Emotion, in a game?

Unfortunately by thrusting the SWAT threat in my face it then goes from doing the unimaginable to just shooting badguys... except the badguys are actually the good guys. I think the moment is lost because once the shock had faded, I couldn't work out why my undercover character hadn't stopped the event in the first place. Surely his whole reason for being undercover is to stop that kind of thing? Besides, following my assault course run at the start of the game I could have easily taken them all out before they had fired a shot!

                    .

I do think it was extremely brave of IW and I applaud them for taking risks. It does highlight that gaming is quite far behind other mediums when dealing with tough issues, but for a brief few minutes the moment was incredibly powerful.

The last bit of that spoiler is pretty much my assessment of it Pete.

Taking into account the global stage, you couldn't get a much bigger atrocity aside from something like

a nuclear strike on a civilian area.

I'm sure there's the argument that it's the American attitude of

"it isn't happening on our soil, so why should we care?" (certainly an attitude that America have adopted in the past - and certainly pre 9/11, although to be fair it's not an attitude exclusive to the Americans either. But the problem with that stance is that Makarov is shown to be a huge problem and a thorn in the American / British side for some time. He's something of a global problem.

In-depth knowledge of a serious plot like this would have allowed them to gain leverage with the Russians into allowing them to work on their soil to grab Makarov. The Russians could take the credit and avert a slaughter of their innocent civilians.

Also the CIA would have weighed up the chance that, if this went wrong (which it does), what would be the chances of it being uncovered that the guy was actually an American? Clearly they were pretty high so they just wouldn't have taken the risk.

The more you think about it, the more it just seems ham fisted. It's like Infinity Ward came up with the general idea, ran with it to the point of no return and then stopped when the realised that it could land them in a lot of hot water if they weren't very careful in trying to dress it up.

It's just that the dressing up is actually wafer thin and makes little sense.

                        Only just seen this post.

In my photo I tried to write "Chopemon SK8s with NTSC-UK" but I seriously had a couple of attempts at writing it and after one mistake and one scrawl decided that my awful hand writing wouldn't properly hold up on camera and I'd look like a moron. More so than this post at any rate.

you haven't played much FPS games in your life, have you? anyway, calm down mate. it's a great FPS - maybe even the best this year - but taking the genre to new levels? oh dear, i wish it would. it's basically the old formula, just a little refined, but without any innovation. there's still poor AI, crappy gun sound, respawning enemies and a lack of proper online co-op.

It's all a matter of taste at the end of the day isn't it though?!

Playing this through on veteran at the moment (after completing normal) and it actually isn't as hard as the original so far. There have been a few tough parts but nothing wanting to make me pull my hair out!

Also had a few games of online multiplayer (free-for-all) and it was absolutely fantastic. I love the new additions such as the "care package" drop, awesome.
