Having finished Bayonetta I have now decided to make a start on this. I'm about 4 hours in, and so far I think it's pretty decent.
First thing that strikes me is the excellent voice work. Some of the best I have head recently. Good variety and the stone Golem type dudes totally remind me of the riddle walls on 90's kids classic Knightmare.
The art design is first class, and the game drips atmosphere. Part of this comes from the clever level design too, with the dungeon I played easily comparable to a good Zelda one.
Considering the game takes a lot of influence from hack and slash type games for it's combat, there is a pleasing amount of variety so far, with some nice platform elements and good puzzles.
I like the drip feeding of new abilities, but if I have a criticism so far it's that the controls could have been a tad better. I would have liked the dash better implimented, and block and counter feels a little clunky at the moment, and also the throwing star boomarang thing feels a little over complex at times in the heat of the battle. Maybe I'll get more used to them as the game goes on, but I suspect I'm going to have even more controls to contend with as my abilities increase.
