I'm actually replaying the first DE right now. The HK accents are indeed terrible.
I play some stealth games, but I dont usualy like them that much. For instance Ive played all the MGS games, My favorite was the 4th one (which is by far the most action orientated) and I absolubtley hated the 3rd with a passion, probabaly becuase its the most stealth orientated. I mean I also didnt like the fact that you spent the majority of the game bandaging yourself up and not really doing anything either, but the main reason was that waiting in bushed for half an hour and then moving 5 inch and then doing the same thing again is not really my thing (I'm exageratting but you know what I mean).

I can appriciate when a stealth game works well (which Snake Eater didnt IMO but thats beside the point right now) and realise the Splinter Cell games are good examples of the genre, but I dont see how this game compares to splinter cell. A huge part of the stealth in splinter cell games is the shadow meter thing you have, there isnt one in this as far as I have noticed, which for me automaticaly makes it nothing like Splinter Cell.

Also, again, as I said I'm having no trouble playing it like a more action orientated game, I have loads of ammo, I'm not sure why people are thinking there isnt much about, unless they just arent bothering to pick it up or buy it?.

Just started this. When in cover, why when I press right-stick to move out of cover in order to take a shot does my crosshair disappear? Also, again when Im in cover and a guard walks past me, do I really have to release from cover to be able to use X to take him out?

You use the left stick to pop out of cover and then aim with the right stick, The crosshair shouldnt disapear. My biggest gripe with the cover system is the same thing I was complaining about in the quantum of solace first play thread recently. Your crossair is shown even when youre tucked into cover, it makes it too easy to aim at people as you already have them directly in your sights before you even pop up to shoot them. The A.I. here is also hit and miss in regards to gunfights, somtimes they react quickly and are a challenge and other times they just stand still and let you shoot them.

I actually think the cover system is brilliant in this, best I've experienced in ages.

Such a magnificent game (overall) though, even if I am forcing myself to do the story missions, because otherwise I end up sitting down for a 2-3 hour play session, and progressing the story none, because I must speak to everyone, do everything. Mark of a great game that.

Not very far in but really enjoying this, despite being pretty rubbish at it so far! Messed up the first proper section by both taking too long and not completing one of the side quests but not to worry. Combat wise I'm dieing far more than I expected but I'm getting used to it. edit - as said above I tihnk the cover system is brilliant, very quick and easy to use.

Graphics are pretty good, great art but technically not the best. Lip Syncing is dreadful as already mentioned but the voice work is good enough. Jenson seems like a good character so far too. Music is stunningly good.

Nice to play a game with so much detail in it, quite overwhelming how much stuff there is to read and listen to but it all helps to build an immersive world just like the original did. Also - inventory screen!

You'll stop dying once you get used to it, and then you'll only die when you mess up, and will probably do what I do, and just let myself die so I can replay the section, after having a word with myself.

The game has been released at the perfect time in my opinion too, some really clever PR and marketing has ensured that it'll probably be in the discussion when it comes time for Game of the Year discussion.

PeteJ the sidequest you are probably talking about carries on.

PeteJ: I've died loads too but you just have to stick with it to get past certain parts. It's going to take me ages to complete because I suck at stealth so much. I know it's more 'realistic' but it gets in the way of the fun. You're supposed to be an augmented ex-SWAT officer but you fight like a little girl!

I like the general setting and playing with the augments, etc.

It doesn't seem that there are that many upgrade options though.

The 'tutorial' for the Hacking is bad beyond belief, really no idea what Im meant to do, Ive done three successful hacks more by luck than anything else. Ive not got to grips with the cover system either yet, it doesnt seem to do what I want it to do a lot of the time, but given time as usual with things like this Im sure it will click for me.

You are meant to capture the round globe node. In order to do that you have to capture the flag nodes along the way. When you go to capture a node it will tell you the % chance of being detected.

When you get detected the red computer stack thingy will start to trace you, at the point that you first started. There is a timer in the top right that tells you how long you have until you get found out.

As well as capturing any given point , you can also fortify it, which buys you a little more time when you do get detected.

That's what I've worked out so far

Once the red stack starts trying to trace you, it captures the nodes on the way towards your entry point, itself fortifying those nodes, so if they were "2's" before, the might become "4's", this making it take longer to capture them from your end.

I'm properly enjoying this, just went off on a tangent and started sneaking around hacking everything I could, knocking people out for fun. Sedating people through air vents and generally causing a nuisance by moving vending machines arounds.

It's a nice change that the place you are exploring is an actual livable sci fi world, not endless corridors of shiny metal spaceship or bland repetitive alien landscapes. Walking around the streets and just going inside buildings with futuristic toilets and entry systems is kind of fun. The way that the world is constructed to allow you to access various areas in different ways is nice. It must of been temping to hold back big areas of the city by making areas inaccessible until you have played 6 hours or so so you have enough cash to purchase upgrade X, but they seem to of been quite lenient and let you access many areas in lots of different ways.

I was very impressed by how there must of been at least 5 ways to gain entry into the police station, you can talk you way in, jump your way in, walk you way in, climb you way in etc etc.
Very cool! It's nice to see they have gone to the effort to make the game world interesting and varied.

I do enjoy just exploring the streets, I enjoyed The Darkness for the same reason, but that has a really bland uninteractive by comparison to this.

                              Horrible isn't it.

Still now can't work out why they did that.
