I understand but as the likes of Ninja Gaiden II, show even when MS funds the title it can appear on a rival machine . I just love to see more of this shooters on the Hand held. They're so perfect for the format with their pick and plays mechanics.

Anway been playing more of the port and it's just as good as the Saturn version for the main, shame to hear about the poor trail mode

Agreed; it's great to see this title on XBLA, but I do think it's going to be a hard sell - the genre is pretty nich? as it is, but the difficulty will be a disinsentive to a fair few who give the trial a go then give up.

Really enjoying the HD version of this game and it's quite handy having the control variations on the border. Also nice to have the story subtitled finally! Glad I sold my Saturn copy of this :-) On another Treasure tip, Guardian Heroes is another decent upgrade with a cool looking pencil crayon-esque HD mode.

Disappointed because (as mentioned, even on Very Easy) it is just too dammed hard for its own good.

I've been playing a lot of Cave shooters recently and I have come to understand now what I do and don't like about shooters now. I don't like hitting parts of the scenery, craming through small gaps of it too, and have ships/craft collide with you and charge at you.

Got to stage 2 and then got to the bit where you are being chased from behind and have to dodge things you cannot see coming while having to attack from behind. And I really don't like shooters where you are being attacked from behind!

Which is why I don't think I'm going to bother with this. Hated bangio with a passion, what a stupid game. Gimme Raiden instead!

I use to think this was the hardest game ever, then I noticed that you can use your sword to stop bullets... then I realised it isnt the hardest game ever at all, all that cursing at the screen I was doing was a wild exageration and its actually only about the third hardest game ever.

So I bought this new version, I'm a glutton for punishment like that.

The HD graphics look pretty decent... well they do up to the second level anyway, I wouldnt know about after that.

Yeah, that part borders on annoying. I was doing quite well on one play, then I got to that part and lost 6, 7, maybe 8 lives in quick succession. It's ridiculously hard. And after that there's no let up as you're immediately up against another boss who fills the screen with an insane amount of firepower and death. Still, you gotta love how hardcore it is, how it creates a sense of dread and panic in the player, and how immensely satisfying it is when you do manage a bit of skill, even it it is only for the odd moment.

Didn't realise what a great soundtrack it has too. Reminds me of Yuzo Koshiro's brilliant Actraiser score on the Super Nintendo. Very inspiring and momentous sounding, and compliments the on-screen action beautifully.

instabuy for me cos i like shooters. Buy download play. I then realise how almost impenetrable the scoring system is to start with, i go off, have a little sulk then come back and see that Silvergun X has been on it. Aha i think! he will have uploaded a replay and sure enough he had, started to watch and realise he's a damn robot But i learned a lot and now from that one replay i think i get the scoring or at least i think i do.
Then once you get the hang of it you start to realise how well designed it really is. Rock bastard hard, but exceptionally designed just like all my favourite shooters are. 1200 points well spent.

I played the first level to pieces.

Unfortunately, after that point I get very flaky, as you saw me lose my last life by diving into an inanimate object...

I'll be fine with a proper arcade stick!

For scoring, unless you know there's going to be an area with lots of yellow enemies, go for pure red enemies and leave the rest.

Really ? seven buttons for a shoot'em up?
Im playing on my arcade stick and I'm having trouble learning which button fires what. And I play Street Fighter very often.
I noticed some combination of buttons produce the other weapons assigned, so I'll use that instead.

Does anyone know how to have a very big sword like in the video of the demo when you don't touch any button?
Is it when you have a lot of bullets around you like in Shikigami no Shiro 2 or do I have to power it up?

Despite being a big shooter fan, this is one I've never played before. After buying it this evening, I can only say I'm loving it so far! I only intended to play for an hour before bed, which ended up as three! (with a few breaks to search online for info on the the scoring system). I wasn't sure I'd like the number of weapons when I first started to play, but now I'm getting used to it, I think it's great. The difficulty level isn't too bad so far, not sure how I'll feel about it when I start getting further if it really cranks up. I tried the Saturn graphics mode to see how different they were and found things a little clearer, so I stuck with that setting. It looked a little dated at first, but I don't even notice anymore. The music is great as well! So far it's definitely lived up to the hype!

Can someone explain how the scoring works on this? I'm at a bit of a loss...

I get the 3 colours in a row gives you a bonus but I can't work out anything else...
I've watched a video on youtube and he doesn't destroy everything yet he still gets 100% destruction at the end of the level. How does this work?
He also deliberately misses things which I know he could have easily shot, why is he doing this? For example at the beginning of level 1 he shots the first red enemies but then only shoots 1 blue...!?

I think there is some secret score multiplyer or something thats why he only shoots one blue.

                            From memory -

You either chain completely red, completely blue or completely yellow in sets of 3.

Lots of red = less points
                            Medium blue = medium points
                            Few yellow = high points

                            OR

and this is the hard one, you kill ONE red, ONE blue and ONE yellow to make a chain of three for maximum pointage.

                              No secret score multiplier.

Also, the destruction rate at the end of the stage applies to the boss only.

ItsThere pretty much described the scoring perfectly. Chaining in this game means you need to be targeting the same colour throughout the level. Red enemies are more plentiful but dont offer so many points, whereas a yellow chain is worth a lot more points but there may not be so many enemies. If you're aiming for a yellow chain, always start it off with red-blue-yellow, as this is a 'secret' chain that starts off at 10,000 and goes up in multiples from therewhen you chain yellows.

I knew I was forgetting something! That sounds like it, going to invest some time re-learning this today

                                Such a great game.
