Oh Brilliant. Not only are some enemies tougher but his sign could be anywhere in the game world!

    Thanks for the explanation.

also, what is a Divine Weapon for?
Wiki says: "Divine Weapon Adds Magic and Faith scaling, decreases Strength/Dex scaling. Greatly reduces scaling overall." what does scaling mean here?

      thanks!
Scaling stats are the letters on the weapon stat screen. They basically show how well different weapons work with different character builds. For instance if it has an A rating for strength then it deals a lot of extra damage when you have a character with high strength.

Devine weapons are basically faith weapons. And they scale well with faith builds.

        So I finally beat the

        Four Kings

. It probably took me about 10 goes......With attempts ranging from disastrous to a couple where just one last attack would've finished the job.

I can't tell you how frustrating those attempts were, and I considered my first joypad lob. But yeah..just took a deep breath and ploughed on.

How I ended up doing it was to

keep my usual lightweight armour and equip the Grass Crest Shield, and one of the Pinwheel masks for quick stamina regen, plus the Wolf Ring for poise. Then, after slowly realising my Drake Sword +4 wasn't quite getting things done quick enough, I equipped my Demon Spear+4, and just wailed on the fellas 2 handed and did it first time. I healed whenever my health got down to about half, or straight after the magic area attack...I never retreated to heal though as you're way more vulnerable at distance. I was careful to block with my shield as soon as I beat each one two, as I lost a lot of health just trying to get my bearings and find the next one on early attempts.

So yeah, I'm back to loving this again after a minor tantrum with this boss. I just got the Greatshield of Artorias made and its mega high stability is making me feel like a Dark Soulin' Genius once more.

        On to
now...Who I've already had one crack at before the

        Four Kings

and gleaned enough info from my insta-death to know that a
        weapon is a must.

thanks, got it. visited the catacombs and found out what divine weapons are needed for - they make short work of skeletons.

I did a fair bit of reading up about the 1.04 patch this morning, and as a pyromancer (nerf) using a lightning weapon (nerf) and wearing the antiquated skirt (nerf) / gold hemmed black (nerf), I am ****ting all kinds of bricks. Whilst there's still no word from Namco-Bandai about US/EU patches for either console, I am thinking I might need to hurry up and at least get New Londo out of the way before it lands and bones me

On the plus side, Sun Bro requirement goes down, input delay gets fixed, dupes get stopped, covenant item drop rate goes up, and

            Ornstein's gear

gets a buff. Should be pretty interesting to say the least

Hardly got any distance into this but I'm certainly finding it a whole load easier (and now starting to enjoy it!) having re started as a Warrior as opposed to being Deprived.

Couple of newbie Qs if that's ok though guys as I didn't play Demons Souls and seem to be struggling with some (undoubtedly basic!) stuff !!

What do the blood stain things do?

What's the 01 in the top left next to my HP and Stamina (only noticed it last night, though that's not to say it's not been there all along!)?

And the messages on the floor, sometimes they just contain what look like general comments (good luck etc) but other times they read as if they're challenges and what's the number within them (normally 1 or 2) mean?

The number in the top left is the humanity counter. If it's grey that means you are undead, white means you are alive. If the number is higher than zero it means you have active humanity which will be lost if you die and don't recover your souls.

The bloodstain just marks where you or other people have died. If it isn't one of yours you can select it and see how another player died.

The messages (apart from the ones early on) are user generated can can either be helpful or devious. You can buy a stone what will let you write them yourself or vote (up or down) on them (what the number represents).

Undead Parish: clear the church's ground floor, activate the shortcut to Firelink Shrine and then proceed to the churc's upper floors.

Nope - beaten the hog type thing in undead parish. Got a mystery key. No idea where to go.

Follow BK deets, and go to the front of the church as well to get another key.

Started NG+++ last night after doing something silly,

killed the princess to make Anor easier but the darkmoon wouldn't let me re-join them

. Blitzed everything and got the

                          lordsvessel

. Just two bosses and try to grind the last bit I need.

NG+++ seems no harder than NG++. Maybe even easier.

Gwyndolin was a huge **** in NG++. You need to spec just right to stop it taking an age.

As does leading them to the walk ways and giving them a good kick off the edge (Forward and LB with certain weapons)!

they hopefully fix the lock-on as well, switching targets is practically not working.

need advice: is there a way out of the Catacombs after defeating the area boss Pinwheel or do i have to get through the Tomb of Giants to be able to return to firelink shrine?
