I went there before getting the 'special thing'. I used Decoy to make those were skeletons jump of ledges to there deaths. If you

Find patches there is a skull lantern after he does his usual, which I only realised how to use after I escaped that bastard area due to orange mist blocking my path

      Or

After I escaped I went to kill the wolf and on my way noticed a message highlighting a hidden path past the waterfall by hydra lake. You followed the wall around the corner instead of climbing the ladder?

        You can use the

Skull Lantern found in the pit where Patches kicks you

        , equip the

Sunlight Maggot (helm) dropped by the Chaos Bugs in Lost Izalith (between the Titanite Demon and the shortcut to the Demon Ruins)

        or cast

Light (acquire from Dusk; requirements should be pretty low).

          Good day today. I learnt

Soul Arrow and Heavy Soul Arrow

, which have been most helpful. I also took out the

Undead Dragon, Capra Demon and Gaping Dragon

          in one attempt. I discovered

Rickert of Vinheim and Domhnall of Vena

          , so now I can

finally thin out my inventory by putting all the extra stuff I've been carrying in the Bottomless Box

. I've almost levelled everything to 16 too.

Tomorrow I'm going to hit Blighttown, where

I'll finally be able to lay my hands on the Washing Pole and the Iaito Sword (the latter will be my main weapon for the remainder of the game in the Lightning +5 variety), and the Shadow Armor Set

. The game wil become more enjoyable for me as of then as up until now I have been using a
as my main weapon, which I hate, but it's the most useful item I have. After I have those items, I'll go back for the

          Belfry Gargoyles

          .

Really starting to enjoy this now, making some good progress, and I can confidently engage any enemy without total lack of confidence. Uncharted 3 is gonna have to gather dust on t'shelf.

One question. I can carry as much gear as I like right? It's only load weight that I must worry about?
          Kept you waiting, huh?

Carry as much as you like man, no hard choices like in Demon Souls. Which IMO is a shame really, picking that rare drop up and slugging it back to the nexus to secure it.

            *X-factor has finished! YAY!*

Only equipped items count toward the equip burden.

              Keep in mind that the

              Washing Pole

              is sold by

a "hidden" merchant and you have first to join a covenant for him to appear.

You can also get the Uchigatana

from him which has an higher base damage; you can also get the Uchigatana by killing the male merchant in Undead Burg, but only if you don't need arrows.

That's true, somewhat ruined by being able to hold as much as you want. It'll certainly make certain areas easier as item management was a big part of Demon's. I'll still dump as much gear as possible anyway as I only like to carry what I'll use.

Some things are easier than Demon's Souls, whereas others are more difficult. It'll be much easier to platinum this game though IMO.

                I was planning on

not joingin any covenant, as I have the pendant and I wanted to get the alternate ending

. Perhaps I'll just stick with the
for this game in that case.

I've been toying with the idea of

killing the undead male merchant, but I use my bow with some regularity, so I'll be waiting for the next update where arrows will be available from blacksmiths before I even consider it

                .

I thought the Washing Pole had the same base damage as the Uchigatana, but it also has thrust damage due to it's long length. It's got 20 point less duration from what I read, quite weak at only 60 points

                .

This is currently contested, but I was planning to do the same on my next playthrough to see if there's any difference. An other speculation is that

the pendant adds/modifies a dialogue with Kathee

, but so far nothing is certain about this item.

Have you done something else before going to the church?

IIRC even if you leave him in the cell he'll find his wayout when you collect the Firekeeper Soul in Blighttown and kill Firelink Keeper right away.

                    [edit] Actually he'll escape

                    after defeating the Gargoyles.

                        Eh? I havent even seen
, you mean the guy from Demons Souls?

Maybe I acidently killed him while fighting for my life against those pesky regenerating skeletons?

Also that Titinite Demon is the only one in the game I havent killed becuase I had no Arrows and couldnt be bothered taking it head on at the time, which is typical really considering that it seems to be the only Titinite Demon in the game thats guarding anything worthwhile.

                          You meet him

in the Catacombs, but only if you get there soon, probably before ringing both bells; he's kinda hard to miss because he uses a pole weapon and a greatshield, plus he's far from any enemy. In the Tomb of Giants he's not far from the entrance, near the first bonfire and just above three corpses into a pit; probably you're missing him due to the darkness, he automatically moves to the Tomb when you enter it.
After he kicks you into the pit (where you can get the Skull Lantern, along with other surprises) and you don't kill him, he'll move to Firelink as a merchant,

                          just like D'sS.

                          Regenerating skeletons:

divine weapon. Even with a necromancer around they won't resurrect.

Finished playthrough 1, that's enough for now. Excellent game, quite a bit easier than Demon's I reckon. Ending was rubbish but I can't wait to play again.

I'd like to get a hold of that Washing Pole weapon. It's clearly based on the legendary Japanese sword the Drying Pole used by Miyamoto Musashi's greatest rival.

I'm gonna join the covenant so I can get it, then do it on NG+ too. Dual wield Washing Pole should be pretty dangerous. One fire, one lightning with a +15 Iaito for backup. I'll wait until NG++ for the Pendant ending, seeing as it's not evening confirmed.
