Just one other thing, how was I supposed to know those things? The manual doesn't give any real description of anything bar the absolute basics?!?
    I've drunk the kool-aid but,

It isn't supposed to be an easy experience. The social learning aspect is built in to help and extends to water cooler/online if you want that.

You have to walk back to Firelink unless you've unlocked warping. ToG ends in a road block unless you've done the step after receiving the warp ability.

There is a path by the bonfire (that is next to Patches). Head up the ladder then head right.

DO NOT GO THROUGH TOMB OF THE GIANTS!

The caps say it all! You will need to go back there later!
        ( I learnt the hard way! )

yes there is a way back out of the catacombs.
assuming you've moved on further to about the first bonfire in the tomb of giants head up the ladder where from the bonfire and you'll notice 2 ways to go, northwest where ummm patches is and northeast takes you back ontop of the pinwheel boss room but you'll have to roll off a ledge where one of those little flame things are that kinda guide you through the catacombs, infact i'm making a mess of this.............watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN4GBUVJnH8

How am I supposed to beat

            The Capra Demon

? I walk into the room, and he runs up and kills me in one hit. I've got him down to half life once, but it was pure fluke I think.
            Kept you waiting, huh?

thanks, i already figured it was not the best idea to go down the catacombs just out of curiosity

very helpful video. youtube can be such a joy when it comes to gaming tips. also, i found the official Dark Souls Guide is pretty crappy compared to what you can find online. not much in the way to good tips or strategies and hard to read maps - a shame. anyone else got it too?

                @J0e

Capra was my easiest boss so far but I think I just got lucky:

as soon as I went through the mist and saw this was a boss I darted up the stairs on the left. Halfway up the stairs I turned round, shield up and started backing up hitting the dogs as I went. By the time I got to the top of the stairs the dogs were pretty much dead. Then I moved to the left (as you are facing the direction of where you came in) and Capra seemed unable to follow. This gave me time to think. Capra will move below you so plunge attack him, run back up the stairs and repeat. Probably easier if you are super lightweight but I did have all my armour on

Not actually got Dark Souls as in fear of it. Watching GhostRobo guy on YouTube. Getting past that place looks so so hard.

                    For a knight/heavy armor build,

use the Hollow Shield dropped by the soldiers/warriors in Undead Burg/Parish. It's 100% physical and has higher stability than the Knight Shield found in Parish (less stamina consumed per blocked hit). Anyway, the strategy doesn't differ too much: as soon as you enter the fog run toward the demon or it will plunge you for massive damage; you'll be able to recover before its next attack but the dogs will get you. Run toward the stairs and kill the dogs up there, if the Capra follows you get at the end of the upper walkway and drop down, the demon will follow you shortly. Never stay too far away from the demon or he'll jump-attack, and you don't want it. Wait for a simultaneous two-swords strike to attack or after a two-three hits attack.

I'm a thief. My armour is practically non-existant. Sod it. I'm having a grinding day. I'll get everything up to at least level 16, stock up on as many arrows as I can carry, learn some sorcery, and then I'll get back to it.

for anyone who's completed the game at least once or infact still swithering wether to buy it should keep an eye on this guys you tube channell http://www.youtube.com/user/EpicNameBro his video's are really good and the commentary is really down to earth and very informative at times, he uploads about 2-3 videos a week and has his whole playthrough broken down into 15 min vids up to where he is now.
                          fantastic stuff.
i myself have now put in arround 300 hours, on ng+++ , usually exploring @ weekends but due to work mon-fri i grind souls for a couple hours each morning and afternoon and i'm nearly soul level 400.

Had an excellent invasion fight last night. I invaded with the Blue Orb of Dark moon blade in Izalith. I spawned on top of a temple in the middle of the lava and as luck would have it the target was also there. Using my 5.1 speakers (evil laugh) I listened to wear hit foot steps were shuffling. Neither of us wanted to make big moves in case we got the drop on each other and figures out locations. I cast hidden body and slowly make my way down. He heard the spell being cast and shuffled around a bit. I slipped and lost half my energy on the fall (damn!).

We spend 5 minutes shuffling around the Island, neither knowing where one other way exactly. I cast my last hidden body and slowly walk towards where I think he is, suddenly I See a foggy figure standing right in front of me, he is wearing a fog ring. I wait for 10 seconds, I think he knows I am there too but neither wants to commit hoping for the back stab. My hidden body time is running out and like a noob I lose my cool and start swinging! should have two handed, kicked and jump attacked him. He has a katana and I a black knight sword, two handed would have won the battle but alas I got cut to ribbons by speed.

A hunters fight on a tiny temple Island in Izalith.

Invaded someone else in the catacombs, they were stuck between me and the one armed demon in that narrow corridor.

I love invading. Shame it takes about 20 tries to invade using the blue stone.

Finally been able to cut off

Seath's tail and get the Moonlight Sword

. Unfortunately I won't be able to get the Knight's Honor trophy because I still miss the

                              Iron Golem's fist weapon

, but it was the last
I needed and it was to most difficult by far.

                              Priscilla

is an other enemy with a

hard tail cut to perform, but because her tail is short and hasn't much health.

Anyway, during NG++ couldn't resist the temptation and used the infinite soul trick and I'm now level 511. The

                              (true) Greatsword of Artorias

has an attack rating of 722 at max stats and with

                              Havel's Ring

I'm able to stay below 50% encumberance with

Havel's Stone Shield, Greatsword of Artorias, Darkmoon Bow, Tin Crystalized Catalyst and fully upgraded Black Iron Set

                              .
I've also been able to get the

                              Dragon Torso stone

                              from the

                              Path of the Dragon

covenant, time to leave the covenant and work my way through every other covenant, I should have enough offerings to get to rank 2 in each of them except for the

                              Blades of Darkmoon

                              .

                                Oh I also murdered the

4 kings on my second go with the stamina regen grass shield, havel armour and two handed black knight sword. Killed each within about 4 hits and only drinking the flask after the homing magic attack. dodged the medium ranged attacks and absorbed the close range ones.

Got a great way of getting down there quick if any one needs it.
