Agreed. The water section is ridiculous. I was so glad when that was over, I resorted to just running through the areas as fast as possible since I was never fast enough to hit them.

Finished this myself yesterday. Overall, I think it's a great game. If it only had the campaign on the cart I would have held off, but Raid mode is a very fun extra.

Just finished it myself too and loved the final battle. Thought it was a really well designed fight, which took into consideration the limitations of the control system, with really clear cues to latch onto and use to determine what action to take.

I just need to get better fighting the "normal" enemies now for Hell mode.

Definitely the most fun I've had playing Resident Evil in a long time. Loved the reference to (ending spoiler)

Lost in Nightmares at the end. Reminded me that I still need to play that as my RE5 playthrough was on PC and they never released DLC for it.

I thought it might have been a reference to RE6, but you're probably right, I was forgetting it was set before RE5... Didn't Jill go missing at the end of CV though? So it would have to be set before that as well.

You can always turn the 3D off, why do you have a bad feeling about it though? I've had no trouble with it.

I just finished it. I loved it. Contrary to some posting earlier in the thread, I loved it more and more as I went on. Yes, I had some issues (the enemies being a big one), and I did take a while to warm to it but the more it went on the more hooked I got. I felt they ramped up the tension really well and managed to keep it interesting for me throughout. Yeah, the side mission bits didn't seem like much effort had gone into design (in spite of lovely visual work) but the main game mixed things up quite a bit and really got the most out of the location.

Even the backtracking I felt was handled really well. Sometimes they'd change the whole situation on the ship so going through areas again was different and sometimes they'd just chuck a backtrack at you at what felt like the worst moment. There was one area (water area I think) where I just barely made it through and I got to where I was going only to find out I'd have to make my way back again. I thought, are you kidding me? But not in a bad way. It was that I felt such an achievement making it through once, it really felt like it was upping the ante making me go through it again. Another was one of the

              timed parts

where I had encountered hordes of enemies until I got to the destination, only to find it was a dead end. I'd have to survive going back through.

But then they mixed it up by flooding the section.

Smart and interesting design, I felt.

I also got quite into the story, which was a bit of a surprise to be honest. I was really involved by the time I got near the end. I do think it was a bit cheap that (ending spoiler)

everyone survived (how did Parker manage that?)

but that's about my only story complaint. Well aside from me missing something right at the start. Maybe someone can help me out with it -

Jill went to the ship seemingly to look for Chris, but Chris was then revealed to be nowhere near the ship and was with Jessica. When Jill meets Chris, she doesn't even seem to ask him where he was, which made me wonder what I missed. I know this was being orchestrated but I feel like I missed what happened there.

Nice end sequence. What was that with

Jill and Chris going into the mansion? It was like history repeating itself. Was that a specific reference to 6 or something? Not sure what that Lost In Nightmare thing is mentioned above.

So overall, I loved it. I also thought it worked great on 3DS and looked mostly gorgeous. I really hope they do another 3DS one. Only with zombies.

Great impressions. You played without the circle pad pro?

                Comment

No, I used the circle pad pro. Really not convinced it needs it but I had got it and so used it. No real control issues other than the fact that I never figured out how to dodge successfully.

Ending spoiler based on question Dogg Thang asked:

Lost in Nightmares was one of the DLC episodes for Resident Evil 5. It was actually a prequel to 5, set in another Spencer Mansion, where you played as Chris and Jill (the events of which were what led to Jill coming under Wesker's control in the main game). The clip at the end of Revelations is basically Chris and Jill entering this mansion.

I don't think Jill was mentioned at all in Code: Veronica (which is still set in 1998, only a couple of months after the Raccoon City incident in Resident Evil 2 and 3: Nemesis). I think Jill's next canon appearance in the series after 3: Nemesis is actually the final chapter in

                    Umbrella Chronicles

                    followed by Revelations (2005).

For anyone thinking about picking this up zavi currently have it for ?25 in their Monday sales thing.

Not sure if that's classed as a bargain or not or would have put it in the bargains thread.

I finished it yesterday and while I enjoyed it, I came away really disappointed with it.

The new enemies are completely boring to fight and look like they fell out of bad Silent Hill fan art. The story twists can be seen a mile away and all of the characters are terrible. Jill and Chris continue to be completely lifeless and all the others look and sound like they came from a bad anime. Jessica and Rachael's outfits are ridiculous and pandering.

I want Umbrella back. A dangerous corporation run by an insane paranoid psychopath obsessed with puzzles and internal politics is far more interesting than the BSAA run by the detective from Heavy Rain and Christopher Lee running the FBC.

I remember when Hunters caused you to clench your cheeks as they stalked the mansion, now you mow 50 of them down with a machine gun.

It doesn't have any of the charm or interest of early Resident Evils and lacks the non-linear tactical combat of Resi 4 and 5.

I'm going to play a load more Raid and may do Hell mode but I can't help but feel that Capcom have lost their way a bit. It feels a bit like the execs wanted something that sold 6 million units like RE5 and the fans want RE1 and this is trapped in the middle with no character.

I also hated the last boss. Dodging never seemed to work and the camera was too slow to see him when he got behind me. Hated that bit.

And that bit where Jessica says "I just need to check something."? Give me a break.

This I agree with. I'm actually tempted to say there should be more of a fuss made about it. It wasn't just the outfits, almost everything Jessica said was about someone wanting to take her out. When Chris, Parker and every other guy was dressed for ass-kicking business, it just seems so backwards that Jessica would have such a stupid wetsuit outfit. Not just seeming like it was designed by young teenagers for teenagers but doing women a disservice generally. I guess at least Jill wasn't going on about her 'sweet ass' like Jessica did so that's something.

Ah, I think you're right again, damn you!

When I irst played RE5 I assumed it was from CV, but it turned out o be Lost in Nigtmares of course... Which was set just after CV as far as I'm concerned! ...Probably.

Yes that was horrible and so was the bit where

                              she gets her geography wrong

making her sound like a bimbo.

                              That said

maybe she was playing up that role since she was deceiving them. Maybe I'm wrong and this is subtle genius (I'm not).

Also, bring back Julia Voth. I thought Jill looked great in Remake, UC and 5 and it really disappoints me that they've changed her.

Just finished episode 1 and so far I'm really impressed. It's visually gorgeous, the slide pad being the main sticking point. It's very comfortable to hold but the controls felt off for a while. Getting used to it now and much preferring this to Resi 5. Scannings quite easy so far too. Most of the time it just turns up ammo and health so you only tend to do it when you need to top supplies up, seems to be plenty lying around at the moment though it could get sparser later.
