Digital Foundry wants a word in your ear.

      tldr:
      PC wins.

      Between Xbox 360 and PS3 -
      Both have screen tear.
360 has a slightly higher framerate (though neither are that spectacular)
360 has slightly better shadows (not as much dither as PS3)
Though PS3 has slightly higher quality textures.

I am surprised how well it runs on older hardware. Those shots above are on medium settings and look great, with a good stable framerate for a 2 year old iMac with mobile GPU.

I can't wait for Xbox 3 as I am sure similar if not better will be easily possible. I still hate the faff of PC gaming.

if console gamers want to compare with a mid range PC, here are some shots:

Amaze - I commandeered a friendly vehicle to go and clear a radio tower. Came back only to find the two guys waiting where I had left them. I thought it was only fair to let them have their jeep back so got out, expecting them to just ignore it.

Instead one of them jumped in and sped off, leaving his mate stranded. As I giggled at the trail of dust rapidly vanishing into the distance and the poor guy left at the side of the road in the middle of nowehre, I was promptly knocked over and killed outright by another driver coming down the road behind me.

That'll teach me stand in the road like some kind of slack jawed tourist

Just got attacked by a shark, made me jump out of my skin! Punched it to death to unlock the forth gun slot.

            Yay videogames .

I'm getting on better with this now I've turned it down to easy. It's harder to be killed by a random tiger when out hunting goats to make a wallet.

I've done enough hunting now so I can actually hold more than one weapon.

I am about 15 hours in now, and like EB playing on Easy seems perfect for me. Silenced sniper rifle is my fave at the mo, especially for taking down outposts:

                - Get onto some high ground
                - Highlight all the Pirates with Camera
                - Silenced Sniper most of them, with a few running into cover
                - Send in a few flaming arrows to start several fires
                - Run in with Silenced MP5 to finish the stragglers
                - Get into cover & pull out the LMG
                - Let rip into the re-enforcements

I love the freedom you get to choose how to take on these missions, It's fantastic fun! I also love the fact that at the start I was always struggling for Ammo, restricted guns/health etc, but after lots of hunting and grinding, I am now an overpowered 4 Gun carrying killing machine! I really enjoyed that development of the character, perhaps something RPG fans can related to?

I also had a funny experience last night, I was working my way over towards a Radio Mast and had cleared a small outpost on the way. At the back of the outpost was a small stretch of water over to a beach, and being quite a long way inland it was calm and felt a bit marshland like.

By the waters edge there was a Goat or similar and I couldn't resist taking my Silenced sniper rifle and the kill. Feeling like an alpha preditor I swam the 30m across to collect my skin when WHAM! I got taken just at the beach by a Croc!!

Really fantastic game, and I just have a few niggles.

                1.) I can't shoot out lights
                2.) I can't shoot down any vegetation/trees/structures etc
3.) There seems a lot of effort in crafting "Spells" but I don't see a need for many of them

On the basis of my time so far, this is a GOTY candidate for me. (this is a perfect type of game style for me.) Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that this was like a 1st person Just Cause. This got me thinking, one of the main reasons that I didn't get so immersed in JC2 was due to the third person nature of the game. I think that playing in 1st Person is very important for me to enjoy the combat and get lost in the game. 3rd person seems to break that for me.

Anyway, great to be playing a game with a wide smile again, I enjoyed Halo 4, but it's been too long since I've been bitten by a game.

Yeah I think you're at the same point as me, where you have enough diverse weaponry to choose how to approach each objective... It really comes alive at that point to be honest. So far its a great game but equally I think it's way too rough around the edges graphically. It's obviously best played on a decent PC rig... The 360 is decent but a little ugly in parts.

I love the reading the stories about this game, sounds exactly like my cup of tea. Hopefully I'll get it for Christmas as it's on my list to Santa

I am very confident this will be perfect for you mate!

One thing I was thinking yesterday, after a chance encounter with a bear in the mountains, was that a drop in/out coop for the game would have been great fun, even if limited to Radio Mast/Outpost missions. The reason the bear came to mind, was that I thought it would be funny to have you VP up on the hill with some kind of high cal sniper rifle, whilst I was "Bait" for the bear.

Instead I ran like a loony and droped C4, taking care of mr Bear with a single button press.

Speaking of C4 I also had a moment of calamatity yesterday.

Basically when you storm an Outpost without 100% stealth you will trigger and alarm that normally means 1 or 2 incoming jeeps full of Tangos.

In stealth mode, I carefully placed C4 on the left and right hand enterances to the Outpost, about 50m out to avoid detection, and then sneaked back up the hill to do my sniper dance.

When the jeeps arrived I forgot about the C4 and took them with my LMG and then afterwards remembered the explosvives! Doh! Then I heard a truck approaching and it was really full of people. I let rip on the C4 and somehow managed to blow up either side of the truck but not the truck itself. However some poor dude on the back was thrown off the wagon and lay face down on the dirt doing some kind of final death throws. On the screen the "Do not kill innocents" message popped up, and I had norrowly missed taking out a bus load of my "People" with C4 meant for the bad guys....

                      Another Fc3 moment!

Do you know you can shoot the little red telephone thin on the post and it disables the alarm? No reinforcements will come and you get Bonus XP for liberating without the alarm going off.

It does look good on a PC ... Just need AMD or Ubisoft (or whoevers fault it is) to fix the microstutter issue, otherwise it looks superb at 1080p.

Yeah, I do, but for some reason I haven't been good enough to spot it before going in!

The bases are for the most part one of several different designs, they are usually in the same place.

The one I've done the most times has the post next to the door to the base/shipping container that you will subsequently spawn inside.

I finished the story on this over the weekend and i'm sad to say it left me a little disappointed.

                                Pros -

                                Great bad guy Vaas.
                                Open roaming map
Easy to get lost in side missions

                                Cons -

                                Story

Vaas gets killed off and another bad guy who you dont care about takes over

Your Character - No likeability and the story has them make some awful decisions
Crafting - Starts of really good but then after a while your forever sorting out your inv
Ending is poor and very predictable

No easy way to view alternative

Moves you buy with points could easily not be there

I did like it and ive gone back to it for abit of a clean up but after I have finished with the co-op I cant see much value in it.

7/10 maybe drifts to a 6 towards the end.
