I went the whole game without noticing something else incredibly obvious, that you have to use blade on the blue boxes, I kept coming across them and thought "it must be something you have to come and find once you've unlocked something" lol

In your defence, dude, it's pretty daft to have a different type of chest requiring a different button press to open. I read instructions that you have to especially chop the lock off these, but still...a bit pointless, really.

I forget games even have manuals, as so many games I buy don't even have them in.

I think it's a little bit of a throwback to japanese developers being poor at designing tutorials, I notice that in this the tutorials unlock as you play and you actually have to quite the game to go back and learn a new skill.

Did you find the bad guys hidden in the cardboard boxes? It was only by chance that I noticed it the first time!

A few chapters in now and as far as positives go, it's better than the demo suggested it would be. I'd be curious to find out how much work from the previous version Platinum had to do to finish this. There's some nice references hidden away and despite the ropey tutorial system the combat set up does work for the most part despite the camera's efforts. Flip side of the coin, God knows what the places who scored it very high were smoking. Visually the MGS future setting means the game looks fairly drab, helped in no small part by the graphics engine looking dated as it is. At times this looks like a game from years ago despite not being, perhaps a hangover of its drawn out development however it plays very smoothly.

Story wise I'm not finding it engaging at all and I usually love the MG series shenanigans. Raiden is his usual self but the other new characters lack appeal. It's been years since I last played MGS4 but if memory serves me correctly this seems to ignore the ending of the game also. That's presumably also a leftover of how this wasn't supposed to be set after MGS4 originally.

Level design is mostly non existent, Chapters seem to make up of fight-cutscene-short run-fight and repeat, it'e very PS2 in some ways.

I don't know, it's better than I was expecting after the demo but on the other hand it's a lot weaker than it could be. Different kind of game but it's far from the quality standards of the main series and so far not Platinum's best game either. The most impressive action all takes place in cutscenes and QTE's which doesn't help its appeal. If it had come 2-3 years ago it would have appealed to me more, it doesn't help that we're still waiting for a proper new entry. Despite that I feel my MG love is carrying it slightly still.

Mainly, it's short and highly repetitive so unless Platinum's previous action efforts have enraptured you I couldn't in any way suggest there's ?40 worth here. It'll make a great bargain when it drops sub ?20 though.

I was stuck on the end of game boss and found a new move "ripper" when doing the tutorials. Kind of gutted I found when I'm at the end of the game.

                  Yeah, the L+R stick move?

Blink and you'd of missed that prompt in the game.

Why do people play games expecting good stories? In 27 years I've never played a game with a great story. I used to think Zelda LttP and FFVII were good stories, but in reality, they ain't.

The one that says "RIPPER MODE NOW UNLOCKED. VISIT THE VR MISSIONS FOR TUTORIAL" when you unlock it?

What are all you guys doing? Just spamming past all the info prompts? That's not a blink and you'll miss it. It's pretty obvious from a cut-scene that Raiden has gone mental and brought a new combat element into play. The prompt simply makes it more obvious.

Revengeance Mode is very nice. You really have to nail your commands for the action to play out how you want it. The enemy attacks are all pre-set so it's the same initial round of attack each time which you can direct as you wish. It's like being a live action fight choreographer! This is where the real game is at.

I should have R-00 S'd today hopefully. The initial group of three guys and a gecko are cake now. I do the exact same initiation each time and then flow into taking the gecko, it works flawlessly each time.

This reminds me a bit of god hand, sod the graphics and story just pure balls out fighting. Though it lacks god hands charm and funny moments.

Some of the codec convos are quite funny, Blade Wolf is also great. Did you also notice the baby gecko trying to fit the USB connector in upside down? Who doesn't do that all the time? ><

Yeah, screw the story. I'm still mystified why people expect a great story in every game. Much less a Metal Gear game. It's like walking into a brothel and expecting to find a loving relationship.

Ill be honest I've only played the demo a good few time, once i got the hang of the fighting and some of its nuances it was quite enjoyable, so havent seen the meat of the game, its one for when im a bit less skint unfortunately.

Agreed, you want story, go read a book that has 4 in the series and real development, you want to chop someone in half while back flipping over his pal, well then step right up you've found your ride.

This game is hilairiously bad. The camera constantly swings all over the place, I'm constantly battling with the unintuative controls and the guy I'm actually controlling with them looks like the silliest cyborg anyone has ever seen. Then there's the over the top cheesy voice acting and inexplicably weird cut scenes where nothing that happens makes any sense.

It doesn't feel anything like a platinum game and it looks like a metal gear game, but plays like a really terrible action game. I'm actually almost embassed to be bothering to play it. If this game didn't have metal gear in the title I doubt anyone would have even seen fit to release it as its a complete mess of game design.

Its the most comical train wreck ever.

Mine has been traded, I got 10 hours out of it before I was dry.
Cut my losses before its ?17.99 on Zavvi tomorrow....

The guy in front of me in Grainger games was trading it in too.
