You are forced to do some single-layer missions to start with. They will get you into the swing of things. Then there are three sets of Village Quests, which you can do to further familiarise yourself with the ins and outs. When you feel ready (I only did the first set of Village Quests), hit the online part and find people who are at a similar level that you are. You'll soon get to grips with everything. Otherwise just ask. The community is very friendly.Kept you waiting, huh?

I agree the online community ( including this den of iniquity) are very helpful either while asking questions here or while playing online.
There really hasn't been a game that has grabbed me like this for a very long time. If you have either a 3ds or a wii u you should at least try it, sometimes the game is magical.

To get the most out of the and you really should be playing both the single player and multiplayer, there's still some grinding to do as that's kinda what the game is about, but there's a lot less of it that way.
You're missing out on half the game if you just play multiplayer, just like you're missing out if you only play single player.
In fact, while it can be argued that the group focus of multiplayer makes the game more fun, the single player gives the game much more context and back story, and actually puts the player Into the role of a monster hunter better. This actually makes the single player portion of the game the more important part.Last edited by rmoxon; 02-05-2013, 21:45.

Worth mentioning that Tri was the first with an actual storyline, and that Capcom expanded that much further with 3U.
2ndG and 3rd/HD were basically: Here, you're a hunt. Go hunt.
Not been online too much this week as I've been working on village high rank quests so I have some better gear to fight with, as I was woefully underpowered. Still kind of am as my Brachydios hunt took me 49m41s to finish with a weak Arka Unu (W) bow. Capped with 19 seconds left!

Monsters in village quests are a little weaker than the tavern ones, yet give you almost the same rewards. It's good for levelling your armour before going back online (as someone is ALWAYS massively underpowered in a group).
I beat Zinogre to unlock 9* village quests earlier. I've started working on Zinogre (sharpness+) and Ivory Lagi (partbreaker) armours, with Brachy (slime) and Narga (affinity) weapons.
I have partbreaker gemmed in right now and love it, I break EVERYTHING
