It's multiregion for online play. It'll hold your hand at first, so just do what it says and you'll be alright. Bow is hard to get into. Bowgun appears to be more accessible.

The interface is perfectly designed so that you can use and switch between items on the fly. You never have to stop what you're doing to use something.

Meant to say, I reached HR2 in multi this week. Downed Rathalos, Gobul, Lagiacrus, and then last night a Nibelsnarf. I'm coming for you, Musashi.

Till now I've always found this series to be a poor man's Phantasy Star Online. The inface and design still seem a little backward, but it's improved since the PS2 era.

I quite liked the Wii U demo of Monster Hunter 3 and didn't have any trouble with the Yeti creature, when using fast characters. The Underwater creature in the demo I couldn't beat but I found as a archer I did the most damage. Based on the demo I'll go with the faster weapons and the bow.

But as a starting out character what's the best quests to approach?

Also did they remove the region server lock? If not I'll be stuck with PAL players only.
You can't go wrong with any of the starting solo quests as they are designed to teach you the game. I recommend starting with the sword and shield, its the easiest weapon for beginners.

            RE: S3M

Finally joining the Monster Hunter bandwagon then!

            Well, tips.
Go offline and get your farm to at least be able to make honey, which will help you get mega potions.

Just get full sets or armour, unless you're comfortable spending time mix & matching different armours for desired skills.

Weapons wise, sword and shield is always a good choice to start off with, though when underwater it's easily one of the worst as the moveset changes and will throw you out of position. But really, you'll soon find out which weapons suit your play style as you mentioned before.
You could try dual blades, and why not? Everyone else loves them.

It's a good idea to be proficient with a few weapons as there are times I don't like to use some weapons against certain matchups.
Especially underwater, which usually narrows down my options to either lance, or lance.

I'll be online later! Exams is done so I'm FREE to game!
Add me via Miiverse. I'll be parked up in a locked room (password is NTSC all uppercase) doing endless G-rank volcano runs until someone joins. Hopefully we can get a full team going on and help someone get to a higher rank.

Thanks rmoxon, Jimtendo and J0e Musashi for the advice, I'll play it safe and play offline for the short term and follow the tutorials.

Yes indeed Jim I've joined the badgon in my usual style, at the moment however at the I'm also finishing off Mass Effect 2 as well so might be some time before I fully get into the swing of things. Once I've got some experince with the game and know what I'm doing I'll post some Mii invites to get a team together. Right now however I don't want to run before I can walk so to speak.

One thing I've not quite understood is in relation to the HR ranks - are they purely in relation to multiplayer only? Doing all of a particular star rank in single player and the accompanying urgent quest seems to do bugger all.

I'm getting quite heavily into this now. Have got the MP HR2 urgent quest unlocked and ready to go, just trying to finish off a full set of Agnaktor armour first though.

                    HR is multi only.

No, HR is Guild Quests from the Tavern only, which can still be played solo.

Do they scale down when you do them solo?

In difficulty, umm...a tiny bit but not really in a noticable way.

Difficulty in terms of HP pool and attack/ defense power is the same across the board according to ranks in Tanzia (low/ high/ G-rank) whether you tackle them solo or multiplayer.

Though I've noticed that Moga low rank/ high ranks seem to be a tad easier than their Tanzia equivalent monsters.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Tavern, but not Village. I'm about to go online if anybody fancies it.

We've hit HR3 lately and feel like the game's just opened up a whole new world of surprises. Misty Peaks as a new area is absolutely incredible, and suddenly there are 'Rare 6' goods to start harvesting along with new spoils from old monsters, and a shedload of new armour sets to start putting together.

Currently rockin' a Djinn sword (the funky fire one from Rathalos/Rathian bits) and a full Agnaktor armour set. 50+ hours on the clock now. This game has me by the balls.
