It’s basically like smoking, this game. It’s not really that great, you don't get anything good out of it, and everyone tells you it’s a bad idea, but for some unknown reason you carry on doing it regardless.

So, I've gotten quite a bit into this now despite my initial hesitation. Couple of questions:

1. I've just hit level 15 on my Warlock and unlocked the other sub class. Should I switch to the second and start again from scratch on that or stick with my original sub class?

2. Is there a way of making the 3 man raids (or w/e they are) any easier, other than more capable players? The first one I attempted with that massive thing chained up did not go well at all, the thing is a bullet sponge and too much comes at you, my team must have had it to 10% hp after what seemed like forever only to wipe. This is not my personal idea of fun.

3. Do I need to be level 20 before I see legendary ingrams etc drop from enemies? I've had one or two greens but nothing major

4. Should I bother with the Crucible before level 20?

5. Is there a faster way of racking up vanguard and other reputation other than beacon missions?

1: Yes, level up the sub class as one of its abilities allows you to respawn yourself without having to be revived, which is invaluable on the higher difficulties.

2: Try hitting the bosses more in their weakspots. E.g. the boss you describe - the big bulge in its belly area.

3: I didn't see any legendary armour drop until I'd maxed out the Light levels on all my Rare armour (level 24).

4: Don't bother with Crucible at all, it's crap, and you don't need to play it to level up.

5: Yes - do the Strike playlist (when it opens up for you) to get more Vanguard rep.

After the weekend im up 1 exotic titan helmet and 2 exotic weapons. Mainly thanks to mike and rep helping on the final quest of a epic lvl26 summoning pits.. and learned the importance of matching void/arc/solar damage to bring down shields and a coordinated effort to bring down unshielded mobs.

Still having fun and hopefully we'll get a 6man raid going this week.

I'm level 21 nearly 22, I haven't had any item drops for ages to improve my level. I've tried some strikes but got nothing worth the effort of doing it.
As for legendary/exotic armour/weapons I've not come across one in 25+ hours!! Handed in around 15 purple engrams in and had only a few blue but mainly green pieces of tat back! It's all becoming a bit tedious now

One thing i would say, is always double check the light rating of blue armour you pick up. Theres been about 5 instances where I've picked up an engram containing the same armour I'm currently wearing, but the new found one actually has a much better light rating.

I'm up to level 25 now, and only have one legendary item, and haven't touched crucible...and never will.

I always do mate, haven't picked up anything better in days. Stuck on 21 and picking up rubbish. Had to chuckle when one I decoded was around a level 8 weapon! I know loads have issues picking them up.
I don't really do the crucible so can't even buy a lot of the legendary stuff

Pvp is easy exp regardless of how bad you're at it and it caps rep and points way faster than pve and drops loads of blue armour to take you up to 25.

It's just not that fun tbh.
I don't mind online multiplayer and I'm not that bad at them but they've been done better than this game. I personally don't think it's that good or not enjoyable hence why I'm not doing the crucible.

You don't need to play the Crucible to buy legendary gear.
