Well I hit level 20 Friday, and was at a bit of a loss as how to progress, after three failed attempts at the moon strike with randoms, i felt a bit deflated we spent a good while hammering the boss only for us to get killed about twenty minutes in. We where swamped by enemies and just weren't powerful or organised enough. so i left to do a few patrol missions and a bit of PVP this saw me level up the damage on the strangers rifle, and also pick up some rare armour edging me up to lvl 21

I jumped back into the random lvl 18 strikes play-list and this saw us taking on a strike on earth and a Mars strike, I was quite impressed by these as although they reused bits of the story maps they made them feel very different, by introducing new bosses and upping the difficulty levels via throwing swarms of really tough enemies at you.

These two missions saw me get a whole bunch of rare gear and one legendary chest armour piece, jumping me up two to level 23. All from one nights play. I think I'm Gonna carry on focusing on the strike missions to up my vanguard rating and try and save up for some legendary armour. So if anyone fancys joining up to do some stikes, we could maybe tackle the summoning pits again, now i have better armour and weapons.

I'm stuck bridging the gap between lvl 24 to 25/26, as i appear to have maxed out blue armour to +15 light a piece so need purple to continue which I've had little luck with from drops (only purple heavy machine gun so far).

Still rank one in pve and pvp so even with 100+ marks (capped for the week) i can't buy gear.

That One purple armour piece from the strike mission's jumped me two levels I had only just completed a full set of blue armour when it gave me the legendary armour piece, I must of been really lucky. I've had loads of armour drops from the two lvl 18 strike missions So I think that's where I'm Gonna stay for a bit and see what else I can get, it seems to up your vanguard rank quite quick too if you pick the right bounties.

Just finished last story mission (couple of sides and strikes to mop up) and my final view of it is that the whole game is basically just a very highly polished and repetitive grab-bag of timed crowd-control/'horde'-type levels, invariably with the spawn points visible as fog gates around each 'arena', combined with a simultaneously streamlined yet bizarrely obtuse RPG-levelling system and a half-arsed/half-broken implementation of coop play. The combat, though, is frequently exhilirating seat-of-the-pants stuff especially in 3-player Strike mode, and the environments look spectacular, even on last-gen. But the plot, lore, script and characterization are so bad, so excruciatingly, breath-takingly and almost exquisitely dull, nonsensical, childish, pompous, witless, humourless and disjointed, whether you are talking about the main storyline - if such deserves the name - or even the descriptions of the most trivial item in your inventory, that any experienced videogame player should frequently find themselves crying with laughter. It is a shower. The final cut-scene was, ...well. As an example of sci-fi world-building, Mass Effect this is not. To be fair I've enjoyed the shooting immensely, especially in those instances when this ostensibly social shooter makes it easy for you to play with others, and I will play on for a few more evenings, but I cannot think of a reason why I'd stick with it long term or return to it at any time later in this 10 year plan - God help us. I gave it a six for the excellent shooting, robot sound effects and pretty environments.

The story is pretty throw away but it all looks so pretty, I just pretend I'm playing a star wars game, the speeder bike bits could of been directly lifted from the star wars universe, hell even some of the baddies look like there from star wars i could of sworn i was fighting general grievous at one point

there's a definite inspiration there he even has four arms like grievous but hes a captain not a general

Then it goes a bit warhammer on mars what with space marine influence I'm sure I had a fight with this guy on one of the strike missions

Yeah, I've lost count of the number of influences from other games/films/role playing materials. Surprised people would mark a game down because of poor story though. I don't think I've ever seen a good story in a video game, and I've been playing games since the early 80s. I'm always glad when devs don't waste too much time with story - 10 times out of 10 I would always prefer that time to be spent on gameplay.

Just had something quite unexpected happen whilst doing a level 24 Strike - 2 legendary engrams appeared within a minute whilst shooting Vex droids, and yielded an exotic sout rifle and a pair of legendary boots!

Ordinarily I don't care about story either, but the way this trash gets pushed down your throat as if it was something truly wondrous and epic, ... well it just got on my tits.

I think the story aspect is just one of the areas where the hype train got ahead of itself. Not a single Halo had a good story so it was always bewildering people expected Destiny to be any different, especially when coop is involved. Curious to see how Acti handles the Destiny 2 hype

Added. What level are you? Might not be on tonight until quite late, but I'll be on most evenings from 5pm onwards.

Eurgh. After 20 hours in and at level 23 I am well and truly done with it. This trend of holding back content to sell as DLC just pisses me off, you can tell very easily that huge chunks of the story have been purposely left out for later instalments, and the campaign is shockingly short. There is no excuse for this to be acceptable and throwing in an incredibly broken multi player (pitting level 5 players against level 26 players for example), and expecting people to just endlessly grind on repeat strikes doing the same old thing, over and over and over again is not some sort of acceptable replacement for a meaty single player campaign.

The whole game just feels like it has been butchered up to sell DLC installments later on in the year. I am bored of it, the randomness of loot drops in strikes is totally unfair, because everything you are rewarded is totally random and has absolutely no bearing on how well you played. It just gives people crazy unfair advantages and I am just pissed off with the entire thing. It represents bad practice that I previously thought only the likes of EA were capable of, and I question just how much pressure Activison gave Bungie over how this game was made. Because this screams corporate DLC BS all over the place, and I don't really think Bungie are like that.

Anyway, I'm done. What a disappointment.

If any of you watch the Angry Joe show he sums it all up perfectly. Pretty graphics and great gun play does not mean that we should turn a blind eye to the whole package and how it is being sold to us.

It's Activision and a new bungie game, I think we could all safely of predicted that this was going to be the case with it.
Massive investment, equals massive amounts of paid for dlc and most probably huge chunks of game withheld that was already complete.

Does that mean we should accept the practice as fair play because it cost so much to make? No other industry does this. Movies cost millions upon millions of dollars to make, but we don't get that sold to us in chunks do we?

So what's the best sub class for a hunter? Hit lvl 20 on whatever the first one is with the golden gun without even realising I could change it!

Is there much benefit to unlocking them all or is it play style only?

No I don't find it acceptable at all but unfortunately we have all validated the process by buying the game in the first place. Though we don't have to buy the dlc, for me it will all depend on how much value it offers, if it's good value I'll get it.
