ALSO I double perfected a Diamond 5 Rashid along the way and made him quit.

    Tonight was a good night.

Maaaaate! What a dramatic story lol. Congratulations, absolutely made up for you. One of our own!

When you get caught up in ranked due to passion etc, it niggles in the mind. Thinking about the game and the need to see you're improving. I think SF6 does it well. You do feel as you stomp out bad habits and learn new ways to deal with match ups, there's a real feeling of improvement. But bejebus, it can be tiring at times to get back up from setbacks, losing streaks etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's a great achievement and reward for sticking at it and something you can be proud of being in the upper echelons, that small percentage of players on planet earth that get there. May sound dramatic, but you are a Master now and you should feel some kind a release from the grind. Free from demotions.

      Legendary next

        Hahahaha exactly!

Thank you bud. I know it’s only a game, but goddamn I’ve been playing a lot of it and working hard at improving, so it feels amazing to get there.

I’m 100% drinking a celebration whisky right now, and looking forward to taking a little break and FINALLY being able to play Aliens Dark Descent that’s been taunting me on my shelf for a while!!

Congrats on making Master and against a JP.

Last night I had two sessions, after a weekend losing streak I won something like 600 LP in one session. Only problem was I lost it all later in the evening 🤣

Man I really struggle already jump happy Ryus. It's the only match where I am like I am just going to get battered no matter what. They also seem the most wake up super happy players.

Mate, honestly I had the same problem with Ryus. They are so YOLO in this game. Wake up DP, wake up level 1, jumping everywhere, spamming DI. its madness. The random nature is what catches you off guard.

I ended up jumping neutral a lot against them, on OKI or in the middle of strings, stopped trying to anticipate the wake up DP, and shimmys, and start started going in for them. Under pressure YOLO Ryu's are awful players I found. Theres no rhyme or reason, you've just got to focus on getting them on the backfoot.

They always. ALWAYS. DI'ed or neutral jumped as I approached. Though oddly NEVER DP'ed. So I started just jumping in at them and a jHP in the air, or just empty landing>throw, or jumped over the DI if they didnt jump.

Honestly the tough Ryu's i've found were the reaaaaally patient ones. blocking everything, parrying everything, DP jump ins and zone you out really well with fireballs. Bastards, let me get in!

You guys getting lucky with jump opponents. I pray for jump-ins so I can AA. I imagine in the higher ranks of diamond, opponents are more grounded?

Not saying I don't jump in. I think it's a good part of the game. If you can get a well timed/spaced one on a fireball/boom, then you get a decent punish.

If it’s a jump in at a reasonable time when you’d kind of expect it, yeah it’s a simple punish. But neutral jumps when there’s a significant gap between you, or jumping like mad at close range neutral or as a cross up- it’s a lot more difficult to punish, especially when it’s so random haha! It’s Definately part of a YOLO play style, that people use intentionally to throw you off your game and make it difficult to stop typical flow charts. Ryu especially seems to be a common play style.

You’d think people would be more grounded at Diamond, and some are. But you still get plenty of folks who have one punishing setup, or people with specific gimmicks - effective one’s mind you- that basically is just a knowledge check. If you know, you know, and they’re useless- but obviously far more people don’t know as they’ve managed to get that far just from using their one thing.

Kimberly and Rashid are perfect examples. People usually have one punishing corner setup that knocks for 70%, then outside of that they just rely on DR into throws, or lows. It’s really common place- but if you don’t know what their game plan is, it completely wrecks you. The Rashid I fought yesterday was one example. I double perfected him, but the one round in the middle he won, he basically took most of my HP in one long optimised combo. The rounds I beat him, I was all over him and you could tell every other aspect of the game he was super below par.

Anti air is something I really need to work on. I have developed a horrible habit, if I don't react and block 9/10 I go for a OD DP. Worked in Plat and D1 but not so successful in D2 after doing it once players block subsequent tries but damn it's now it's muscle memory.

The whole "mental stack" concept plays out in a really obvious way with me with regards to anti-airs, as when I play Marisa I find I'm really bad at checking jumping opponents and will typically just block, whereas with JP I am way, waaay more consistent with being ready to react - and this is talking about the same down + HP command with both characters.

What a streak I have been on from Diamond 2 to almost back to Platinum 5. When the Platinum team were beating me today. It's insane!

Did that thing just now where you go on this amazing double-digit streak (ok... it might have capped out at just ten but comment remains accurate), get loads of solid 2-0 wins and rank up... and then proceed to go on an equally impressive losing streak, not just de-ranking but going halfway back down your old rank, and getting 0-2ed in runbacks against the same people you were just washing earlier. **** youuuuuu

Mental tiredness I think. It happens to me a lot, I’m playing well, I’m making all the right calls and reacting well, then I just… stop.

I think the mental stack in this game is so relentless, you tend to burn out super quickly. As soon as I feel myself just mashing buttons and not really thinking as well, I turn it off/ or go into casual.

The good thing is, if you got there, you can do it again!

Went to another tournament today. This time I travelled to Leeds for SFO. Came 13th out of 26. I went and did a Desmond (won 2 / lost 2). There were some monster players there. I was dropping bread and butters a bit here and there in key moments. I put this down to in-real-life-face-to-face-oh ****-im-on stream nerves. Really nice
                            (but long) day.

I'm only in the lower end of that top bracket, but Ken definitely feels like the most represented character I see. Cammy and Luke make sense too, whereas Ryu and Marisa feel like rarer encounters? My biggest issue with the omnipresence of Ken is less Ken himself but the absence of so many other characters. Those rare moments when I get matched with, say, a Blanka or a Lilly provoke total panic

Really I seem to get a good mix of characters. I do get a lot of Ryu's and Zangiefs. I don't get Ken anymore then I get Cammy and Luke but most play sessions I also get at least one Dhalsim and a Blanka.
