Think I'll try buying 5 second hand crap games tomorrow and trading in for GT4.

This really is a stonking offer though, I hope they do it with more new releases. I've just been buying scabby ~?3 games from cash convertors and walking up the road. With the offer i got:

GT4 for a total of ?9.99
MGS3 for a total of ?10.74

i was in the mood today and since i still had a lot of stuff to shift i took my neo cd machine and 18 games into gamestation to see what they would give me

now i wanted ?75 for the machine and the best offer i got here was ?50 shipped and as usual with every 2 games people bought from me i was giving a 3rd for free so out of the 18 games - 6 should be for nowt

all the games i took were priced at ?5 - ?7 in my thread (in the end )

i got ?75 for my console and ?9 per game since they didnt scan

so i walked out with:

ps2 gran turismo package (slimline console and game)
ds package with zoo keeper

In Wakefield there are stickers on most chart games across PS2, XB, GC so you can do the deal, not just those few PS2 games. I heard the guy say that it's on any chart games too, so maybe the few that aren't stickered could also be done...
I asked about exchanges and the guy seemed to be saying you could return it and exchange for anything.

i changed my gt 4 for mercs yesterday. bloody game wouldn't work on my ps2, apparently it seems to be a huge problem for old ps2s.

same here. i sold mine to cex the next day for ?21 (seeing as i bought 3 cheap games for ?12 and threw in my old rogue leader GC for the gt4 99p offer)

Watford Game wouldn't let me have anything other than the games in the offer, which is a bit of a pain - I wanted to change a second set of four for Mercenaries as well as the four I did do for GT4. Gamestation wouldn't even consider matching it; not surprising as the trade-in values of my games were about a quid each...

Still, GT4 turned out to be great, so I'm happy.

I tried to take advantage of the offer today to get GT4 for my brother's birthday. GT4 was one of the five games available on the offer, two of which were no longer available, so it was GT4, Robots, and something else. The trouble I had was finding cheap enough games to trade in. Hash Converter's games were 'from ?4.99' so I checked mvc and the cheapest combination I could find was going to cost me ?18. Add to that the 99p and I'd be making a saving of just over a tenner which is hardly worth the hassle and shame of firstly buying 4 haggard, gravy-stained, dodgy titles and secondly taking them in for the trade and presenting what looks like (my) extremely poor taste & care standards. If I could have saved ?20 for my troubles I'd have gone for it, as it is I'd rather pay the extra tenner for the luxury of simply walking to the counter with a game and walking out with it a minute later. I dunno, maybe I just need to find that cheap source vendor, like a slippery market stall or something.

You've gotta be careful about the games you buy to trade in, because (presumably so they don't have to test them) GAME won't take anything with even a slightly scratched disc.

Gamestations trade in thing is wont be beaten for trades. Find anyone with better trade in values and they'll beat it by 1 pound. I imagine that's per game they are beaten on. Not sure how you go on about proving it or they go on about checking it mind.

So I suppose you might be able to wrangle your way out of paying the 99p by pointing out that it's a trade in offer, have them match the offer + beat trade by a pound and take one of the games from the GAME offer aswell as walk away with a shiney 1p credit note. Worth a shot

I think it differs with the store really, they seem to take anything here so long as it's not been attacked by sandpaper. If they try and refuse a trade in for bad condition just say "I bought it here last week."

Asked in Gamestation in Sheffield whether they would match it, and the assistant gave a little laugh and said, and I quote:

"No. No way. Not a chance. No....."

Fair enough......can't fault them, I wouldn't want to match it. But it did mean that I spent nothing in there that day. Won't stop me hoovering up all their good and questionably priced Saturn/Dreamcast games over the next few months tho.......
