Manager's discretion, I believe. Some managers are doing so, others aren't, certainly.

Watford just laughed, and thought about grabbing a handful of ****e to go get some extra MGS3 stock.

Look MattyH, Gamestation aren't doing any offer of this kind. Only GAME is running the offer. If you read the thread you would've realized this. The reason there is mention of Gamestation is because they profess to 'Not Be Beaten On Trades' therefore some members here have persuaded them to match GAME's deal, in accordance with their claim.

Exeter Debenhams GAME is going 4 + 99p for any chart game tomorrow, if anyone's in the vicinity. Gonna pick up Brothers in Arms on Friday

Went to Gamestation today. Bought 8 PS2 games. Cheapest ones I could find. They were all between ?4.99 and ?6.99. Got to the checkout

GS Guy : Are you doing the GAME trade in thing?
                Me : Yeah, I dont even have a PS2
GS Guy : Laughs, We love it because we get rid of dead stock. Actually head office has told us to take down loads of our old stuff to get rid.
                Me : Laughs, Great idea.

GAME accepted 4 of them but the other 4 he just said nope they are all too scratched mate. Sour grapes I think.

Heh, just try again another day and have your wallet open and GAME card thurst forward while they are checking them and they won't refuse, works for me

Well the offer changes tomorrow, and this time it is swap 4 games for a chart title. Again no football or rasslin', only Xbox, PS2 and Cube games.

Bowser what do you think to this whole trade in thing? I was speaking to a guy I know in Gamestation and he was just like do it while you can. What is Game's stance on this. Basically, why?

Wasn't the offer 4 games all the time? I only traded in 4 games today.

The offer before today was only on 5 games- Fifa ****e, Robots, GT4, MGS3 and Project Snowblind. That one lasted a week.
From tomorrow it opens up to all chart games, which is lots of good stuff. This new offer lasts two weeks.

My opinion on the scheme is mixed. I've ****ing rinsed the thing with a stockpile of ?1.97 games that I buy, trade and re-buy. I will continue to get some good stuff and sell the rest on eBay.

The bad side is it's a ****ing lot of work, every transaction seems to be a trade in.
The place looks a **** hole with piles of games and the back is already very, very full. It will only get worse.

As for the company, they can sell 90% of the ****e traded in for at least ?7.97. If they do this they'll make 70p. You'll find many other titles sell for above ?9.97. I've seen it before, mostof the stuff will go in some 2 for ?20 or 2 for ?25 and the company will be laughing.

They make so, so much more from pre-owned compared to new. Watch out though, we've been prompted to be very, very selective regarding disc quality if it's obviously a piece of toss game ie old F1, Oni, etc.

It just seems like everyone is laughing at GAME but maybe GAME are having the last laugh. I know Prism buy up all their dead stock as far as I've heard but that could be wrong. I would have thought that due to the size of GAME they would make quite good margins on games and if they are doing it for 70p it's probably not worth the fuss. Making a good margin however when people dont realise it and they are quids in. I thought maybe they might start a GAME Preowned store or something like that?

                          Comment

When I say they make 70p that's the least and will only apply to a bare minimum of stuff. Some stock will be a dead loss like F1 and Oni as we already have loads (expect a ban on F1 games soon I reckon) but most will go for >?10.
The trade in price for every game in the offer is ?7.25, there are so few games that wouldn't sell for that price they're on to something. Sure they may only break even at worst, but often they'll make a profit.

This is like the 4th time or so the offer has been on in approx 12 months. Do you really think they'd constantly do it if it wasn't wortwhile? We get moaned at if our percentage of sales isn't at least 20%, so the more stock the better.

But seriously, you'd be shocked at the numbers of people that won't buy a game on it's own for ?6, but will buy the same spurned game and another in a 3 for ?20.

You'll also find some stores are pre-owned monsters and they'll get sent the stock of other shops to clear.

When you mean disc quality, do you mean the actual condition of the title (like one scratch = NO), or just the actual game itself (so you can actually refuse guff like, say, Project Eden)? I'm probably looking into this far too hard, but a clarification would be nice for myself. ta, chief.

I have to say, they have been rather sneaky - seeing as most people have traded in their games by now, they will probably expect less people taking them up on this even better deal. Either that or it's just a school term promotion . Still, there's plenty more guff to hunt down. Anybody got a rough list of decent games that are available in the chart list, bar the four previous titles?

It just really interests me why GAME do it because from Gamestations point of view they are getting rid of dead stock, swapping it for next stock and getting money for the new stock. GAME are helping its competitors.
