I usually can handle it but this week was just far too much to cope with. Calling Yoshi's Island worthless was thie icing on the cake. How dare she?

Jakeway - You're right I do only work there for the pay and the discount but I've also made a lot of friends in the company and I enjoy certain parts of my job. We have a retro section where I put desirable machines on display like a little museum. I've also hooked up a Snes to one of the demo TVs and have a game of the week running on it. This week - UN Squadron.

There are a lot of things that make the job fun but having to put up with ignorant uninformed customers is horrible. Maybe I should get an office job or something.

To the person who said I should be used to it after 4 years - I was part-time for most of that whilst I was at uni. I've only been full time for about 6 months. That probably has something to do with it.

Actually, the only thing I'm struggling to understand, is why they bought Fifa from you, and not GAME down the road that would let them switch for free, rather than have to lose money trading the game in

We let them switch aswell but a lot of them are too dumb to realise and I'm too selfish to tell them.

I would've felt inclined to inform her that if this was how she felt, she was in the wrong shop. I would've then refused to serve her, stating that I wouldn't want to corrupt her precious offspring.

I did the same thing for a long time too and struggled through without the crisis you're having.

            Snap out of it.

Just out of question, it's not the CEX in Leeds you work at is it?

Secondly, sucks... I can imagine something like this being somewhat demotivating at times, but I know whenever I've worked in retail, I've been quiet and sarcastic when greeted with ignorance; tell the customer what they want to hear (within reason), and just make the best of a bad situation. Some people won't listen to reason, and people have different opinions - I know at times it can be difficult to accept quite how wrong some of these are, but it's probably not worth losing your rag over it.

Regarding the Outrun dilemma; not everyone is going to find the same games enjoyable, and I can imagine for the hardered GT-loving types that an arcade-style racing game just isn't their cup of tea, much in the same way that I (who prefers arcade style racers over simulation, but doesn't especially like either) would have a view that's entirely to the contrary. In a nice way these two tie up nicely, if you want people to take your opinions on board you have to do the same for them.

Anyone calling Yoshi's Island such names in my presence would have got a slap round the face

Perhaps the author here is close minded in that his nerdy games fetish doesnt appeal to a lot of people, to them, you are the wierd one.

You can't tell Westlife listeners to buy Peter Gabriel records.

Granted though, these people are missing out on the good stuff and give over money for rubbish.

                  Works both ways.

Games are obviously a huge waste of time; they turn teenagers into secluded nerds that avoid contact with other human beings and seek absolute isolation from reality. I think we should all do something more productive in our "spare" time, such as reading The Sun, watching East Enders and getting pissed every single day.

I don't mean to start the old "are games a waste of time" thread, but the general view that games are time-wasting unproductive addictive toys for children is making me sick. That bile-spitting witch needs a good burning in full view of the public if you ask me.

Oh and another thing. Footy is pwned by teh RPGs!!!!11

                          Kaladron,
You are employed to provide a service. You work in a service industry. I personally am fed up with people in your position giving me their univited opinions. If I want it I will ask for it.
Be professional and pander to the customers requirements. Rise above the 'casual gamer' and mock them behind their backs if you feel you don't agree with their own opinions but never ever let them affect you.

I agree about Yoshi's Island though

Service Industry Quote, they have the money, if you want to impose your opinion on someone start preaching like a rabid madman out in the streets....

I like that idea, but does it work at getting people to buy retro games?

You're lucky if that's some of the most ignorant hypocrisy you've ever heard in your life (although only being 17, "in my life" doesn't hold much weight). The first stuff seems exactly what I'd expect... people can play ****ty games if they want to, and it's all down to opinion anyway so if they think Outrun 2 is **** then fair enough. That mother sounds like a real ditz though, luckily I have experience in dealing with these sort of people so I'd love to talk to her regarding the subject.
