C'mon, you know what I'm getting at.
Just like Ubisoft are doing as well? And Sega? But wait! There's no new OutRun due out, or Panzer Dragoon, how could that be?

Of course a game company that makes games for people wants you to buy their games, but I seriously seriously doubt they'll have any hand in which games are ported - since the latest titles are being readyed before they're being released.

I cannot see the logic in making them different. If game X is backwards compatible on US boxes, but not on EU boxes, and game y is vice versa, why not just put them on both lists?

Presumably its the same team working on the emulation code, so it's not as if it's being done concurrently by EU and US dev teams in order to save time. It just makes no sense to me to have different lists.

There is no logic. It's a universal list. Some shocking omissions, but understandable - 360 version of Burnout coming out, so why destroy potential market share by making Revenge backwards compatible?

SF Anniversary's omission is BAD though. I hope they sort that ASAP. Someone mentioned some questionable content on the list, and I believe it's because they use engines of much bigger and more important games such as Halo 2.

The complete lack of outrun 2 is a huge downer.
Still on the fence as to whether it is worth buying one or not yet. Might hang on see how quickly they start adding to that list.

Europe and Japan getting smaller backward compatible list - CONFIRMED.

            US - 212
            Euro - 160
            JPN - 12 (!)

Makes no difference to me as I will be keeping my (Lovely Clear Green!) original Xbox, but would you think my US games would work on my PAL 360 (assuming I get one) - if after all it's just about downloading an emulator type thing to play them?!

It's important to understand what they mean by emulator... it's not like an emulator you download on your PC or whatever. It's merely emulating the x86 and Nvidia specific calls to function properly on a PPC processor with ATi CPU. I say merely, but this is quite a task. But the fact that it's running under a certain level of emulation has nothing to do with region protection as such.

it all depends on whether or not they decide on region protection for emulated games. the fact that they're emulated is irrelevant - take any console emulator and you'll see that it has options for the region (or automatic selection based on rom). if you set your emulator to the wrong region, the rom won't boot.

i can't imagine the xbox's region protection being difficult to replicate on the 360

"It's merely emulating the x86 and Nvidia specific calls to function properly on a PPC processor with ATi CPU"

That's what all emulators do afaik

No, the region coding will still be intact.

                      Right, thanks for that!

Like I say not really a problem, just would have been nice, that's all

No OutRun 2, Orta, Gotham 2 or Burnout 3. Hmm.

No, that doesn't actually leave a single game I still play on my XBox. So this emulation is pretty useless as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure Outrun 2 will be done eventually, PGR2 and BO3 wont be though probably since PGR3 is out and B4 is coming out soonish I think.

Oh, I'm well aware that they would rather I bought the new games instead. I was just working through the list of games on the shelf that have actually been used in the last few months and realised none of them were emulated.

Not that I'd want to give up my saves and start again, either, so I'm just being curious, really. I'd be keeping my old XBox and then chipping it, even if every game worked.
