Fingers crossed, I may be receiving a 360 premium from Argos next week, so I have a question about X-Box backwards compatibility. My only other console is a DC, so I have never tracked the greatest titles on the original X-Box.

One title that peaked my interest recently was the latest Hulk game. I know it has mixed reviews but it looks like a bit of fun to me. I see that it's on the list, but has anyone here tried it on the 360? If so, does it play OK under emulation? I'm guessing that it probably will, since I suspect that the developers would have had a 360 dev kit to test it on during original development, but I'd like confirmation if possible.

I'd also be greatful for any other suggestions for titles that are worth buying to play exclusively under emulation. Where there is a 'superior' PC incarnation of a title (e.g. most FPS titles, due to the controls) I will probably go for that one, but I'm sure there are several others I should consider, particularly as the prices may be falling. What about Spartan - Total Warrior? Please limit recommendations to those titles that you have actually tested under 360 emulation. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond.

Ninja Gaiden.. was/is the best Xbox game by miles IMO, haven't played it on a 360 but to be honest even if the emulation is rubbish (which I doubt) Then you still need to play it becuase its just unbeliveabley good and essential.

Unfortuantley alot of my other favoritre games aren't in that list so the only other one I can think of thats an Xbox exclusive is Halo 2, which is a must if you loved Halo on the PC but, obviously, its one to miss if you didn't

Anyone know if Shenmue 2 is emulated yet for the Xbox 360 or not?
And is the US Shenmue 2 region free?

Hmmm... Another thought. 'Cause it's emulated sure that means it should play any region game, right?

Shenmue II hasn't been emulated - I'd like to think it will be added to the list soon, but I get the sneaking suspicion intensive Japanese coded software is going to slip by the wayside. (Otogi, PDO etc.)

Thanks for the tip, rmoxon, I'll certainly look into Ninja Gaiden. My games playing tends to be significantly "behind the times" on the PC, so though I have Halo, I haven't even taken off the sellophane wrapper yet! When I've tried it, I'll consider Halo 2. Shenmue II is an interesting one. I have the DC original but haven't yet played it. The original game cost me vast amounts of sleep so I need a good clear period of time off work before I dare try the second game!

Thanks for the info. so far.

The only consolation in the lack of Shenmue II compatibility is the fact that playing the game on the Dreamcast, through VGA, with the original voices, is by far a superior experience.

There's quite a bit of slowdown when playing this onthe 360

Oh. I had a quick look at Ninja Gaiden on Metacritic, and though the title is well regarded it sounds quite difficult. I tend to be a bit wary of more difficult titles these days because I can find them quite frustrating. It's probably due to a combination of age and far less free time than I had when I used to complete most games in the 80s. The slowdown puts me off though. I'd rather play games at their best, so if I decide that I really want to play a title that doesn't work well under emulation, I may consider buying the older platform.

                      Thanks again,

                      Jim

The Xbox BC team have stated that they are aware of this problem, are on their way on fixing it. Should be fine next BC update.

If you have a Hi-Def display, set your 360 to 1080i and they should work. For some reason, on my projector, Halo, Ghost Recon 2 and Summit Strike and Thief 3 don't display at 720p. So I set my projector to 1080i and all games, those four, plus Halo 2, Splinter Cell: CT, Metal Arms, Hitman Contracts and Fable: Lost Chapters all run fine at this resolution.

When my projector does 1080i, it displays the screen display as HDTV60, which it keeps for the 360 dash, all 360 games and those last set of Xbox games I listed. When I try and play any of the other four, it switches to HDTV50, which must have something to do with why it won't display at 720p. God knows what, but must be something to do with 50hz versus 60hz or something.

It'll be the PAL 50/60 thing - maybe it depends what your 360 is setup as?

I thought that too as it was set to PAL60. So I turned the Hi-def off, turned it to PAL50, set it back to hi-def... Still the same problem. It's no big deal. I just play all games at 1080i. I can't really tell the difference to be honest so no big deal.

Ninja Gaiden Black is pretty much unplayable on the 360 BTW
