I just love the boss fights in the DMC games. When i first got the original i did find them a bit to hard to start with, but after getting the hang of doing a few decent combos, and the camera angles i never looked back. I did skip DMC2 however (best not to talk about that)

RE4 also had some great boss fights, not to hard, but i really enjoyed them all the same.

The worst bit is that it takes a good ten mins to get him to his weakened state so when he pulls this move out of his arse and catches you with it it really is a pain, I've tried it a number of times and just got fed up with dieing really near the end of the battle im sure i will finish it at some point but god is it frustrating.
The prequel's (Aria of Sorrow) Death fight sounded similar to that, he'd keep using these cheap lightning attacks before sending a homing scythe at you. The first time I fought him, I was dead in about 3/4 hits. Then, after reading an FAQ on the boss, I realised that the guy had no idea what he was talking about so I gained an additional 10 levels over the recommended and caned his ass. Thats the thing with these handheld castlevanias - if at first you don't succeed - go level up!

you can say that again, especially the KOFs'

It seems that the AI is such that if you whip his hide in the first round, he somehow comes back harder in the next two. He has unlimited MAX meter, can do an invisible projectile that wipes more than 50% energy and that hits even if you are on the deck down after being hit, and can juggle you with no possibility of escape if close to the wall.

To cap it all off the character is so lacklustre in terms of design it is untrue. At least Rugal and Geese look the part - Duke just looks a bit of a knob really.
he just takes after most KOF bosses, ie very cheap, but i have to say after initially being very frustrated with him i later found him to be quite easy compared to some of the bosses you find in the KOF's, Rugal in 98 is a complete bitch

I have yet to complete Metal Slug on GBA because of the final boss. The rest of the game's bosses were OK but I can't do this. Gave up when I realised my sanity was more important.

Haven't played Viewtiful Joe in about a year cos of Davison... I played that stupid rhino about 30 times, always getting close but not... close... enough... and couldn't be bothered any more.

The final boss in Gun Valkyrie.

It just took so much toil to get there....and then the blink of an eye to die.

              -spits-

After a handful of attempts I just couldn't be bothered with the stress anymore.

              Stupid bl@@dy Cherub!

I'd agree- Duke was cheap but not too bad compared to some SNK bosses.

Mizuchi in Battle Coliseum is a twat par excellence. I have managed to beat him, only once, but that was only with the 1/3 energy continue service thing. Total and utter cheap bollocks. Does that ridiculous lightining-type move that'll hit regardless of where you are on the screen and then if you actually manage to get close, you can get in 1 decent combo before he just whips you. So frustrating and difficult I just don't see the point.

Also, as has been mentioned, the boss in DoA 4. Ridiculous. Tried for about an hour straight the other night and just had to sack it off out of sheer frustration.

Special mention to the last boss on level 5 of Espgaluda. Just takes the piss.
And all of the bosses from level 3 onwards in Dai Ou Jou.

Oh in battle coliseum when you jump and he launches that multi hit projectile one after the other to keep you in midair thats just plain unfair

Hardest boss that I've actually managed to beat is the final level 42 boss in Bangai-O. My goodness that boss is just evil.

Hardest boss that I've never managed (or am ever likely to) beat is Sturm from Advance Wars. Just impossiblly difficult

There's much to be said for a hard bosses and challeges, of course. The feeling of finally cracking a boss or encounter that previously seemed impossible is always a great one. On the other end, there are ones that are stupidly impossible (F-Zero GX) and cause us to give up as a result.

Don't try Chaos Field then It's a good game, but it's just boss battles.

I really like some boss battles

Favourites are the chaos field bosses (such a addictive game)
and the last level in gunstar heroes.

Even many bosses i did struggle with like jin in tekken 5 and duke in maximum impact i now have no problems at all and find it quite fun

Funnily enough, Gill's exactly who came to mind when I saw this thread title! I was fighting him last night, his fireballs are annoying the way they go straight through yours but the worst is when he brings himself back to life. I find the best approach with Ken at least is just to corner him and not let him out again.

What I find bad about fighter bosses like Gill is that they force you to play cheap to beat them so even when you win there is little satisfaction.

Well a resurrection super move is a really bad idea.

Can just imagine after a hard long fight you beat him you finally relax then suddenly he is up again

Anyone notice for mortal kombat 2 and 3 after a few easy fights the computer AI went super hard and unfair?
