The toughest boss I've encountered might well be that huge thing at the end of Doom 3. After losing about 10 times I switched on god mode and lost another 20 times (kept getting knocked into the inescapable lava) before finally beating it. The ROE expansion's last boss was much much easier.

We still have unfinished business and that is keeping the experience alive for me in some weird way. I know deep down inside I have the ability to beat him - and I will when I'm ready to
The 1st form for Metroid Prime's final boss is really quite easy and the method has been mentioned. It's the 2nd form thats the challenge. It's a great battle though exactly what a final boss should be requiring skill and thought and for me was the best part of the game. All of the bosses pushed you to use Samus's unique range of abilities and thats what sets these bosses apart from those in other first person games. I thought they were all really well done.

I never really have that much of a hard time against bosses these days.

But older stuff, like every other snes and megadrive game for instance, had damn hard boses.

The last time I can remember REALLY finding a boss impossible was The big robot thing underwater in FFVII (forgot its name Ultima?).

I give up on bosses all the time and usually never play the game again but thats just becuase I get fed up of the lazy programing that has them cheating (Played the PS2 Rygar recently and the all bosses cheat in cheap and nasty ways but arent THAT hard, you just need a bit of luck).

Some of the later bosses in Altered Beast on PS2 are just teeth-grindingly frustrating. You character's turning movement is so floaty that it makes them a total arse-pain to beat. My advice: Don't bother!

If you're meaning the cyberdemon, you must have been doing something wrong - I couldn't believe how incredibly easy he was, it was a massive letdown. Unless you're talking about the Xbox version and he's been changed since the PC version?

I was talking about the xbox version the last boss Sabaoth. I doubt anything's changed though it might just be the fact that I wasn't using sprint properly.

As I recall the final boss in Doom 2 (Baphomet) was pretty hard. You had those platforms in a pyramid formation over some lava, then the Icon would spew a ton of enemies all over the level. I'm sure there was an easy way to do it, but back then it was just a case of surviving the onslaught.

On a different note, I've got a feeling that I never beat the final boss in Gods. Was it damn hard or was I just being rubbish? Too long ago to remember.

boss battles should be adaptive to the players skills or check for the experience collected up to that point in the game. there's nothing more frustrating than to invest hours upon hours in a game only to fail at the final boss. happened for me in Grandia, Onimusha 2, Viewtiful Joe and a lot of shoot'em ups.

guess the lack annoying boss battles is another strong point why i still love to play Halo so much. also, on Legendary every Elite is a mini-boss battle on it's own

Although the final jeep getaway on Halo legendary took a while to nail....

Yeah another vote for the underwater weapon on ff7 although after a 4 year break i went back and just spent a silly mount of time levelling before going back there, but he was super hard.

Devil May cry 3 just made me ache from pressing the buttons,I really think that game aint healthy on your hands I found it more of a chore, especially the flying snake thing!

Cave games in general i find just to hard not unfair as such its just my reaction times are just to slow.

Contra shattered soldier i thought was hard but fair.As soon as i got the hang of it and learn the attack patterns then it became quite easy

I totally agree mate. I especially liked that big rock boss. I understand what's required of the second form on Metroid Prime's final boss I just didn't have the visor switching skills to deal with him. Maybe I'll finish him off this weekend.
