Sod that, what about Doom 2?

or even Quake. or Quake 2?

Quake 2 was free with Quake 4 so can't see that hitting XBLA.

Would love to see Quake. I was never a big fan of Q3, but Quake 1 was a defining period of my gaming life.

What were this weeks releases like? I can't even be bothered to try most of the trials these days!

Elements of Destruction = move curser around bland looking map hit button repeatedly to destroy things, didn't seem to matter which weather element i used as they were all pretty bland.

Plays like whack a mole but without the skill timing or the big hammer

Sea Life has you taking pictures of fish underwater, would be sortof nice I guess if it wasn't 800 points.

Any news on what's arriving on XBLA tomorrow ?

Also seems that there is going to be a new cap on achievements on XBLA games ... maximuim of 15 achievements for a total of 250 points.

Yup, Ticket to Ride, and Happy Tree Friends False Alarm! - 800pts each.

Demo for Don King Prize Figher up now apparently too.

Ticket To Ride might be pretty good, if it's what I'm thinking of (board game?).

And yeah, I also lament the loss of the 400-pointer. But it seems that in these days of 1200 point XBLA releases, 800 is the new 400!

Ticket to Ride doesn't sound half bad, will have to give the demo a whirl tomorrow evening. Will have to dust off my Densha de Go gloves. Only kidding, don't really own a pair.

Ticket to Ride is a top board game! Looking forward to this.

Which was only used for ancient arcade games. 800 points is ?6.80. That's cheaper than most Spectrum games cost in the 1980s (even leaving our 25 years of inflation) and most arcade games are ten times better and have a lot more development time.

Seriously, I find it bizarre that you find more people complaing these days about the price of Arcade titles than the price of full games. The world's gone mad.

So, having never heard of Happy Tree Friends, I decided to give the trial a whirl. To be fair, even if I had heard of it I would've given the trial a whirl.

From the tutorial it seemed that the game was a sort of cross between Exit and Lemmings with cute little characters which I presume are from some kids show.

Then I tried the full stage that was available. It begins with a cut scene. A slightly deranged little creature (a green squirrel I think) is eating sweets. It sees two foxes in trenchcoats. The foxes open their coats to reveal all manner of goodies which green thing buys from them. Green thing then ends up in hospital with broken candy canes sticking out of its belly. It gets cured and then while out walking sees the foxes again. It is cured of its sweet addiction however and refuses. The foxes then offer computer game stuff and the cycle of addiction appears to be starting again. How it ends is unknow as you have to buy the full game and earn enough gold rankings to find out.

The game proper then starts. You can see little creatures get burnt, frozen and chopped by swords as you guide them to the end of the level.

                              Happy Tree Friends indeed.

I heard of Happy Tree Friends when I was in uni, never really saw why it stood out among the millions of similar things online.

The game though seems like a good idea but I found it really annoying to control, some of the effects just don't go off. You must need pixel perfect placement.

Nice idea of getting a cartoon before each level though.
