Aye, considering SD content looks terrible on hi-def gear (at least from my experience) my large-arsed CRT is still out and in use (for the older consoles too, mind).

Makes me think of the other thread in the Movies/Music/TV forum with the U-HDTV proposals. How is 320x240 content (or the PAL console equivalent) going to look on stupidly high-definition screens 20 to 30 years from now?

Xbox live arcade stuff looks fine on my HD set, and I presume is therefore optimised for HD. Think in the future we will have to rely on the current gen consoles of the time to deliver classics in a format that can be displayed well on the latest sets ! The days of keeping your old consoles are OVER - You heard it hear first

I have to say I'm very disapointed that wii is not HD, seems silly to release technology to last 5 years at least, which is not upto scratch on the day it is released, if you get what I mean !

I'm not overly fussed myself with the lack of a HD standard for the Wii. The main point of the system is in the control. So long as the Wii goes beyond 30-second party games and offers some titles which have depth and use the controller in unique and different ways, it's all good.

Besides it gives me a legitimate reason to keep my CRT and the other consoles taking up space.

Really? Didn't know it was so soon.

Might stay up to see what'll happen.

It's a closed doors event afaik but I'm sure some of the press there will relay info via text/blackberry etc., so sites will be updated pretty quickly during the conferences. Hopefully when I wake up there will be a ****load of info

I'm relatively optimistic that 3rd party developers will try and use the controllers features.

Look at how the DS has been so successful in this respect (IMO at least). I see there's a Cooking Mama title coming out for Wii.... that's gotta have lots of stiring and chopping motions with the remote

Are there any particular gaming sites one should be refreshing to see the news as it happens...?

http://www.gonintendo.com/ - they are actually in Japan covering the conference.

http://gonintendojustincase.blogspot.com/ - their backup blog incase the site dies under the inevitable load.

Other than that, I'm sure the US sites will post news fairly quickly seeing as its still a decent hour over there. Pretty sure the likes of 1up.com and Kotaku will get us our BOMB!

Failing all that, http://www.gametab.com covers pretty much everything on one handy refresh
