Native 480p plasma? If you're in the UK and using an SD plasma, then it will be native 576p, not 480p. So your plasma will be scaling to 576p. That could account for the blurryness.
Although I'm not a plasma expert, am I not right in saying that even over here, EDTV Plasmas had 480 lines of pixels?

When I was shopping for a Plasma a few months ago, every EDTV plasma I saw stated the resolution was 842 * 480 (I may have that first figure wrong, but they were definitely all something * 480 ).

That's weird, I'm sure I read somewhere ages ago that SD plasmas in PAL territories are 576. I guess I'm wrong. It seems odd that TVs marketed in PAL territories aren't even equipped to get the best out of their own native signal! No doubt the manufacturers just wanted to save a few pennies by not having to manufacture different panels for both NTSC and PAL regions.

As for the blur then, I have no idea, it looked pin sharp on my progressive component equipped CRT.

My 3rd party component cable from play-asia arrived yesterday. Doesn't look much better in menus but Zelda looks a lot better. Which is good as I found the graphics crap to the point of distracting before, now they're not so bad.

So has there been any conclusive tests on the alleged differences between:

The Wii official component cable and:

            The unofficial cables?

I've hooked my Wii up with Blaze, Mad Catz and the Official component cable and the quality's identical for all three - the only minor difference being length.

A guy on AVS forum posted these 2 links. Hope he doesn't mind me linking them here too! (maybe they already have?)

I prefer the colour reproduction of the Nintendo cable in those images.

True, the blue just isn't there on the Mad Catz.

Can I ask what make your TV is? I have a Samsung 23" TV and am still experiencing this problem with DKC (the only VC game I have). Someone else with a Samsung TV said they can play fine. I messsed around with Wii settings and my TV settings but still no luck

I've had no problems with any of my VC games on my Samsung until I downloaded Mario. It won't display through component, I have to use composite.

Do you have DKC? If so, does that play fine? Also, with Mario (64 or SMB?) do you get a 'Mode not supported' message?

I have a Samsung 32" HD LCD, with my Wii connected to it via Component (was the Game brand cable until I replaced it with the official one last week), and Mario 64, SMB and DKC all work perfectly. DKC and SMB look unbelieveably low-res, but they're fully playable.

BTW the Game and Official cables seem to be pretty much identical picture-wise.

Sorry it's SMB - I can't check at the moment, but I think the screen just goes black. Strangely when I press the home button (I think) the SMB title does pop on screen briefly
