Crackdown Demo Xbox 360

I'm still undecided about this. I downloaded it last night and I've played it 8 or so times now and in part it's great fun - the exploration and jumping parts are great, but I'm finding the fighting massively frustrating. Most of the rooftop battles I've gotten into are in relatively small areas so strafing isn't too effective. If there are more than 2 opponents in close proximity then I'm finding it easier to just run in and kick because the firearms aiming is sketchy at best, plus all the time I'm getting hammered by people on other rooftops. I really can't get the tactics down for this game - I tried picking people off from long distance tonight which worked better, but by the time I'd jumped over to where the boss was they'd respawned or got reinforcements so I was forced to just wade through lots of them anyway.

I dunno, I really want to like it as I think there's a great game in there, but the amount of dying I've been doing is really frustrating me - not just because my tactics stink, but also because I spend so much time targetting random bits of scenery or dead bodies.

Incidentally I hate the artstyle. I think it looks like a decent PS2 game in as much as it has that awful dingy palette and rubbish generic textures that all PS2 'real world' games seem to have - there's very little style at all and it seems very derivative of any number of other games. I'm not usually a graphics whore but although the smooth framerate and amount of stuff onscreen is welcome in general I don't find it in the least bit impressive.

Agree with that completely - the main character looks rubbish too. Whats up with the lame ragdoll **** that happens when you die? I think I must have missed doing all the cool stuff yous lot are loving it for. Will have another bash over the weekend cos at the moment I'm more Mr Anderson than Neo.

it's a great laugh will it be Just Cause Future Cop? Who knows but it is fun.

Think the car physics is great. Not so much when driving, but as mentioned above when shooting tyres out. Shoot a tyre and it bursts or blows out and strips off the rim with the cars then swerving all over the place. Did this on the motorway last night shot out the front tyre of a smart car, which then swerved because of that, then shot out the rear tyre on the same side at which point both rims bedded in and the car flipped sideways straight off a bridge Fantastic stuff, was always disapointed with the effect when doing the same stuff in GTA !

edit : Oh and as I've already said I love the look of the game - LOVE IT !!!!! I also hate the term Art Style, if I hear that quoted I know I'm going to shudder by the end of a post :P

I played some more co-op last night and we had fun running, jumping and kicking the ememies and cars around. I was just trying to level up my strength and agility as much as possible.

Throughout the entire game the frame rate would pause for a second every several seconds. I hope all these types of things are fixed for the final game.

Another great thing i noticed last night while playing co-op with a mate was the really sweet AI on the pedestrials, partically the drivers. In GTA the pedestrians just stop their cars and maybe get out and run away. But in this they do crazy stuff like sweerving out the way of bad sh*t or doing high speed 180s to get away. It's really entertaining to tactically place limpet mines and shoot at the drivers, freak them out so they sweve over a mine and BOOM!

I'm trying to restrict myslef to 1-2 games a night but i am just so loving it. I can't wait to see the variation of the other islands

I've played it properly twice now - I didn't even switch on the 360 last night to keep away from it it's horrible - on the one hand I want to rattle the ****e out of it, on the other I don't want to stale it before I have the full monty !

Was happily driving along doing my thing, one of the AI characters blows out my front tyre, I swerve hit a rock near the fairground ditch the car up on 2 wheels and fly through the air upsidedown, it was mad like something out a film!
Didn’t realize there was a car tow truck with a ramp attached to it, that makes for some lovely co-op up right there, especially when you upgrade your driving.
It must be me in my old age but I cant see nowt wrong with the graphics, try climbing the agency tower chuck a grenade from top to bottom and tell me that’s not impressive. Also the progressive lighting from day to night, all the buildings switch on the night lights and the spot lights on the agency building, the frame rate, draw distance it's all very impressive.

Technically this game is amazing IMO. The physics and AI being pushed around are just astounding. You just need to look at the vids on the earlier page, the way the cars fly after the explosions is great, but more so the fact that they break up into so many smaller peices and each of those peices reacts differently when they hit the ground wheels bouncing other bits smashing etc. The ability to then pick up those individual bits is just amazing.

The pedestrians are also so much smarter than any GTA, just beep your horn when driving and look how they react, used to drive me mad the lack of reaction in the GTA's. There is a bit of a flock mentality to them, but it's just great to get an intelegent reaction at last.

Another spaff-off worthy feature....

Beefing up your shooting abilities, having a sniper rifle in hand, standing on the roof of a car while your mate drives at high speed and shooting the petrol tanks of other road users to see the multiple explosions from a single shot.
