I am interested in how they made it sound when talking about water based levels and the water being a physical property with weight, flow, drag etc.

That combined with the machines that are possible just adds a lot of potential as to what can be done in the game.

I'm looking forward to a bit of jet skiing waterfall action and the arctic levels with small blocks of ice floating on top of baddie infested water!

No where near as interesting as your throwing water balloons at each other idea though!

I hope they've got something a bit more interesting in store than your ideas Jetskiiing in 2.5D may look cute, but will be pants after 0.6 seconds

Definately, I was thinking more alonmg the lines of what would be possible in water based levels in Super Mario Galaxy but it's a little harder to explain those and as you started at the bottom rung concerning ideas it just didn't seem to require any more effort than I put into mine.

I'm thinking storms. A windy rain shower blowing you about as windows open in the tower you are trying to climb, but the wind is doing your head in as you jump upwards. Or the way wind affected the player during the first level of Ghouls n Ghosts

Semi violent wavey water a bit like Rhyl Sun Centre too.

            See, sounds better already!

If you're really going for teh Rhyl Sun Centre theme then you'll want to add the being stabbed in the face by a local heroin addict who steals your wallet level as that seems to be teh way things go there now.

I'm hoping that you'll be able to dop things like freeze the water in the level by lowering the temperature and being able to put out fires with it too. I think taht's a lot to ask for though.

uh, so has water been 'confirmed' as a post-release feature then?

I find it hard to believe this game could pull off physics-based water in addition to everything else. Fluid simulations are a bugger to do in realtime... surely this is going to melt our consoles

I don't believe water has ever been mentioned has it? Someone link me if I'm wrong!

I think they'll struggle to get full physical water in the game with everything else that is in it but hopefully they do manage to get it working.

Nice one John. Can you even IMAGINE what could be done with water in the game? No. No you can't! Only MM can do that! Let's hope then.

I can imagine. I may not be right on the money, though.

I know it's supposed to be really efficient for physics processing but I think it'll really struggle if they just give people the option to do whatever they want with it.

There may be limitations on what's possible but going from the rest of the game I'm sure if they do include it sometime, even with restrictions that it will fit in with the rest of the game.

The restrictions may well be as simple as water taking up a lot of space on the thermometer thing that shows you how much more space you've got left for the level.

The chance to play with gravity would open the game up even more but again could be just too much to hope for.

                        EDIT:
Thought I may as well add this link. If people want to create their own LBP site then have a look here: LittleBigPlanet Fansite Register

A shame about the 4 player create mode, but it'll get here when it's ready

Water? That's interesting. They'll have to be strong limits, possibly a new "Volume" meter. Likely you'll be confined to area limitations, but then it depends how they let the player use it and how "physical" it really is.

John, changing gravity will likely be no more than a variable. The problem they'd have there, I imagine, is do you give the player full control, or have a couple of presets? Believe it or not, I imagine presets would be better than total control. The playability of SackBoy will be tied in fundamentally to the gravity - his traction, jump height, depending on the level of physics in the game it could affect his running speed. So letting a user make tiny adjustments there, while interesting and possibly fun, will result in a lot of disparate levels out there, all of which "control" differently. That's not an ideal situation imo. You'd likely want the obvious Gravity controls - 4x, 2x, Normal, 1/2, none (or nearly none). That would give you a load of creative options but keep the playability.

It seems that if you visit Tokyo between now and release you may see one of these walking around as a part of Sony's publicity drive there.
