I wonder if this update might actually take some time to hit the CFW scene actually, there's a lot more to it than most.

Just been having a look at the new PS3 firmware to see what it's added to the XMB due to the fact that they always seem to not mention half of what they've changed.

Under System Settings there's now a DivX Video on Demand Registration Code. Anybody know anything about this?

      EDIT:
Maybe something to do with the DivX press release from yesterday that I've just found?

The wide-ranging agreement covers all titles available for digital distribution in the Warner Bros. catalogue including current and back-catalogue major motion pictures and television programs. Official PS3 2.50 Change Log

It doesn't mention anything about the DivX registration but I've been able to register my PS3 by creating a registration CD and playing it on the PS3.

One undocumented inclusion in this 2.50 firmware is also for me, one of the most significant. 50Hz playback support for the XMB!!!!

No more 60Hz judder for 25fps sources. I'm stoked!

            Couple of things:

Auto-shutdown of the console doesn't seem to work if you have F@H set to run, which is a shame as I would like to be able to run it for an hour or two then have it turn off, but I guess F@H comes under the 'special conditions'.

Also, FLASH does not seem to have been installed - anyone know anymore about this?

I do love the controller auto-off though. I wonder if that also applies to the PS3 remote during BD playback?

Can you schedule it to switch off at all? The machine is hardly idle when Folding is active, so it's obviously not going to use the APD function - the best you could expect is to be able to schedule a time to switch off or an amount of time before power down?

When you say Flash isn't installed, what do you mean? It's only supported in the browser, so if you go to a site that embeds Flash 9 videos (Gamevideos or something similar, I guess) then that should work. You won't be able to download FLV files to the XMB and play them I don't think.

Of course, the same day that they announced this support, Flash 10 was officially released.

Seeing as the BR remote is always on, I doubt it.

Can you guys play Outrun 2 yet?
                Kept you waiting, huh?

I set the console to shut down after an hour, but then it starts Folding after 20 mins of no use, so I guess my original suspicions are correct - i.e. PS3 won't auto-shutsown while Folding.

I know it only supports playback in the browser but I tried a site with Flash vids and it wouldn't work, citing that perhaps I needed the latest version! Did Flash 10 really come out yesterday? That's hilarious!!!

That would explain why the bastard thing is always dead!

The BR remote is only 'always on' in the same way that a regular remote is. It doesn't maintain a constant connection with the ps3. I've had my remote since launch and it's on the same set of rechargables and they've never been recharged.

As long as the PS3 is on, so is the BR remote. It's device number 7. It draws very little power however.

I think you can tell F@H to switch the PS3 off itself after a set period, from the options menu.

Little Big Planet proved to me that the Blu Ray remote disconnects after a timeout period. If I switched my ps3 on using the BD remote (which I always do) and then fired up LBP it would ask me to choose a character for device #7. However, if I browsed the PSN for a bit (using a DS3) and then fired up LBP then it didn't ask. Seems like the PS3 sends a disconnect after a bit. The BD Remote is able to reconnect and send a command in under a second so most people don't even notice.
