Just use something like ps3mediaserver, it should transcode most video files to watch on your PS3.

Dunno about the pC side of things Joe. I use Medialink on my Mac and the PS3 plays everythign I throw at it now with no transcoding involved.

Windows Media Player does it, but won't see MP4 or other file formats...

TVersity is what people usually recommend, this transcodes files that the PS3 can't play itself (mkv etc) - I made the switch from WMP a few days ago and TVersity is good, but it doesn't update the media library dynamically and sometimes the PS3 can't see it unless I restart the service. WMP was more reliable.

Whilst trying can you ask them to add the ability to select all/copy all when transfering files on the xmb, cheers.

And the ability to sort my Games menu alphabetically would be sweet too.

That would place Wipeout somewhere near the bottom of your list.. are you sure?

I would want the ability to change album names, and not having to change each file you want to put into it instead.

Say I want to put 500 movies in an album, I have to edit the album name of each one so that its the same, or if I have 500 movies already in an album I have to edit each one so I can change the album name.. now why can't I just go to the properties of the album, and change the name of that? thus updating every files information in it?

                    sigh

Totally OT, but through my amazing powers of deduction, after stalking your Trophies list it seems you have unlocked Bling Brigade.

                      I hate you!

DivX 3.11 is essentially a different codec from DivX 4/5/6 (essentially a hack of Microsoft's ASF, until they went 'legit' with DivX 4), and many older files will use this codec. It's suprising to see Sony add support for it tbh.

OK, I'll spare you having to watch it yourself but after getting an email from a mate which took me to a post in another forum where I ended reading about the latest hiphopgamershow podcast.

The bloke is really annoying but like Surfer Girl, he seems to very occassionally get hold of stories which end up being true even though they seemed really unlikely before.

Now I'm not for a second saying that this will be happening as it seems a bit mad even for this bloke. At E3 it'll be announced by Sega/Sony that they will be introducing a Dreamcast space in Home where people will be able to play Dreamcast games, the games he mentions so far are Crazy Taxi & PowerStone.

I'm going to be sensible about what he's saying and be honest to say that I'm not expecting it to happen at all and I would have expected downloadable and chargeable versions of the games to be preferable to PSN users, Live users and also to Sega.

He also goes on and talks about firmware v3.00, the new Halo game and a load of other stuff which probably wasn't worth the effort needed to listen to his show.

It would be a hundred times better if it was just downloadable content from the PSN store.

What they mention about firmware 3.00?

Aaw come on, that's not fair!! I had to watch it for about 5 minutes to get the Dreamcast info, I have limits as to how much of that crud I can watch in one go.

According to his site the title of the podcast is 'Sony 3.0 Update To Match XBox Live' but they've been saying that pretty much since v1.00 so I'm not I'm not sure what will happen at E3 if/when they announce the update.

You're very welcome to watch it though and put the details here if there's anything interesting.

2.7 rumoured to be due soon apparently:

According to the post, the update includes the following features:

                                Friends List:
                                • Voice Messaging is now available as an alternative to text after selecting a user on the friends list. Voice message recordings are capped at 30 seconds.
                                • Home Integration: Saved Playstation Home avatar photos can be selected as photo ID for Gamer Card/Friends List.
                                • Trophy number and Gamer Level are listed under Friend names for quick reference.

                                Gamer Card & Trophies:
                                • Gamer Card layout has been changed to more closely resemble the Playstation Store aesthetic.
                                • Past Trophy information can be viewed in detail by selecting "Recent Trophy History" option.
                                • Newly aquired trophies auto-sync in the background
                                • Server infrastructure for Trophies has been optimized. Resulting in faster retrieval time for Gamer Card and Trophy information.

                                In-Game XMB:
                                • Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seemless in-game experience.
                                • "Theme settings" options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB.
                                • Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game.
                                • Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game.
                                • Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion.

                                Misc:
                                • Other slight UI tweaks and enhancements.
They're obviously improving the memory footprint of the XMB quite a bit if this lot is accurate.
