Well I sent my Xbox on Tuesday, it arrived yesterday, and I just had an email saying my Xbox has been shipped.

I'm assuming it arrived, and they thought 'Bollocks to fixing that' and have sent me a fresh console.

I reported a fault with mine and a DHL box has arrived...strange since people have said they don't do that anymore. Also I spoke to a guy (friend of a friend) who works in 360 support who also said they don't send boxes anymore.

He told me something else far more interesting too.

He doesn't know if this has always been the case (as he's new) but he said that the term "repair" doesn't really exist as, according to him, if the machine is at fault rather than the PSU then they simply place an entirely new system in to your existing case.

So all the people who report having got a machine back with the same fault are presumably the unlucky gits who essentially have a new but equally crap system!

Must be a DHL thing to receive a box. My courier was UPS.

My 360 has started crashing within a few minutes of being switched on (pic below).

I got it from Game's website about a week after launch. Just wondering if I could take it into a local Game store and get a replacement? I'd rather do that than have to mess around with Microsoft.

The thing that makes it slightly more complicated is that Game screwed up and sent me someone elses Core bundle with Fifa and Tiger Woods, rather than the one with King Kong and Gun that I had ordered.

Seeing as the value of the order was the same, and I couldn't be bothered with any more hassle at the time (had enough with Woolworths, but that's another story), I just kept what they'd sent me.

So it's six months later, and my receipt has someone elses name and address on it. Any idea if this will cause a problem? Or would they just glance at the receipt and leave it at that?

The address shouldn't make any difference, they just need proof of purchase, they should be able to do it in store.

My 360 arrived today. I have to say, super quick service or what?! They claimed 7-10 days, it took only one.

From Tuesday to Friday, my 360 is fixed. I can't quite work out what they've done to it. It smells new (I do the sniff test on my products), but the HDD has been wiped. The power brick appears to be the same as well.

Still, it works now. Fingers crossed it never breaks again, because I'm pissed off all my saves have gone including my precious Natesha Bedingfield videos.

                Unlucky with the saves

It's weird they use a mixture of UPS and DHL - mine was UPS and didn't receive a box either.

RE Game - they will honour a replacement but, as I discovered, not if they have limited stock.

Why have your saves gone ? Did you return the HDD ?

They've given you a new or refurb machine, your old machine and harddrive are being refurbed at the moment for someone else I guess !

DO NOT SEND IN YOUR HDD !

Like I said earlier they are currently just putting an entirely new (or refurb) innards in your old case.

Yeah, I returned the HDD, because the guy on the phone told me too. I think it was that causing the problems to be honest.

my 360 froze while playing halo2 in 720p last friday. i was so scared as it's lasted since january with absolutely no problems whatsoever, never crashed, no artifacts, no random red lights, perfect machine (albeit out-of-warranty of course - see my coax mod thread ) then it just froze.

i got worried as friday was the day i started playing it in hi-def (been running on rgb since jan) and i thought 'oh bollocks it's straining more now etc etc'.

so i decided desperate measures were in order and cracked the thing open once more, removed the two heatsinks and slapped on some artic silver mod which people at xbox-scene have said is a good idea.

a few minutes after the mod, shakey jake comes online and i tell him what's up. he tells me 'yeah halo 2 crashes quite alot'.

                                'oh'

'bugger. all that for probably nothing'

mind you, the air being chucked out of the 360 is a bit hotter now, indicating the silver is doing it's thang, so i'm happy regardless. with a 360, hotness is good (means the chips are being cooled properly - it's all in the physics), and i couldn't ask for any more right now

so really my 360 is doing just fine and hasn't had any problems whatsoever since i got it (bar the halo 2 which doesn't count cos it's bc)
