    The reparied 360 arrived today.

As it was only DVD drive that was wrong with it, I was surprised they replaced the motherboard, and negleted to do anything with the DVD.

What's more odd is that the discs are behaving now, and not spinning on eject.

Probably get a few months more service out of 360 # 3 then.

Same here dude, I got the same ****e back. In my case the Mobo was messed up, as well as the hitachi drive which sucked. They only fixed the mobo but did not add an heatsink, better disc drive or anything similar. What are those guys thinking? Short term policy? This doesn't bring down the defect rate, its not like this thing will hold on forever with the same inferno blazing through it (I thoroughly tested it), and the same messed up discdrive. It was even in worse state; the power button felt loose and its reaction was VERY BAD.

In fact seeing this unfixed POS enraged me so bad that on the next day, I sold it to some dude who wanted a 360 very bad. Keep in mind this was already my 3rd unit in just 18 months.

I'm going to pick up a Ps3 with CoD4 tomorrow and continue on playing this game. If CoD's the only thing you're playing at the mo, the Ps3 isn't all that bad really.

I don't understand people continously sending in their 360 and accepting it/acting like its normal, well yes I do to some extent because of the good software this system has. But to me, the fun was really totally absolutely wasted. It was a goddamn 400 euro's excluded Live costs etc piece of hardware we're dealing with..

When I got my same, pretty much unfixed unit back from MS I just ranted at customer service (and put a ranty list of things still wrong with the 360 in the box) and they gave me a new unit instead.

Bit of an unfortunate situation with my 360 atm. I tried to trade it in against a Halo 3 model at gamestation this morning but they wouldn't take it as the seal on it was broken when I sent it off to be repaired originally (like an idiot I trusted it to GT Electronics rather than MS). The console is once again partially ****ed as it won't read a few of my disks, it's been back to GT once already but they didn't sort it and now it's outside of their warranty period.

Will MS take the console and repair it if the seal is broken? I don't mind coughing up the repair charge just so long as I get a new warranty out of it.

No, they will flatout reject it.

However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

It seems the repair centre in Germany has sent me Viva Pinate, a game which costs ?8 from a large chain in Norway.

I have been given a ?14 customs charge for the game.

              Go Microsoft, Go!

              Lets see,

              1.) Failed to fix issue
              2.) Scratched 360 in transit
3.) Power Button doesn't work properly now
4.) Sent old game, and charged more in TOLL than it would be new.

I shall now email Customer Services....

              Doh!

I really didn't want to hear that Do you know that for a fact? It was outside of the warranty anyway, they SHOULD take it.

Also, what good would it do to waste time trying if they don't?

Their policy is that if a console has been tampered with (seal broken) then not only do they not know the state of the insides, but their repair people might actually be in physical danger from opening it.

As for why it may be worth trying, the people doing the repairs are human at the end of the day and that means that you can count on at least some of them

a: Not caring that you have broken the seal.
b: Not noticing the seal is broken before they tear into it.

I've heard of enough cases of repairs done on tampered seal units that I myself would chance my luck. (damn shame I painted my case and it stood out like dogs bollocks )
However if you can see shipping costs being lumped on you for unrepaired goods, then it might not be worth your while.

So if MS didn't repair your console, what did you do at the end of the day?

My console had no warranty sticker, had obviously been opened MANY times (from the worn holes *fnarr* at the back) and wasn't even really red-ringing (and was a launch machine) and they took mine back and gave me a new one - it's worth trying it on.

I had to send it back twice, but on the first attempt they sent mine back with a new warranty sticker on it, so that part at least wasn't a worry. I've read many threads on modding sites where naughty chaps have sent in 360s that have OBVIOUSLY been modded, have no warranty stickers etc and theirs have been repaired, albeit with modded firmwares reflashed back to normal. If MS are going to do that, and do free repairs for peeps who are obviously just going to flash their drives back again, well...

Well that's improved my mood somewhat - cheers. I just hope that given my absolutely **** luck I don't end up with them refusing to work on it and then billing me for return delivery

Took matters into my own hands and tried to do self-repair which at the time was the now defunct 'heatgun' method. Sadly it was not successful and I had to take the loss on the chin.

I bought a PAL unit as a replacement and still have that in perfect working order, but the NTSC unit is boxed (in pieces) and will never live again (the heatgun process destroyed the GPU). It pains me to even look at it now.

So my good old 360 has the RROD.

I'd really like to get an HDMI version. Is there any way I can go about the repair process that'll get (or increase the chances of) a nice HDMI equipped Premium? Or even somehow do a cash trade-up to an Elite?

I have a Japanese 360 with 3 red lights sitting on my shelf. Any one know of somewhere I can it to get it fixed properly without costing the earth?
Microsoft won't take it because its 'out of region'.
