I reckon they could be right with that, not that I care. Doom features some great level design that, strangely enough, can only be found in '92-'00 FPS games.

I replayed Doom II not so long since and couldn't remember it being so good, I actually think I enjoyed it more than when I first played it.

Interesting top 100. Quite surprised to see 5 Nintendo games in the top 10 and 3 in the top 5 but, thinking about it, I should have realised Edge readers would appreciate the world's finest software developer.

I think they'd say CoD2 - but not because it's a better game, just because it has flashier graphics.

Doom is a different game experience, I'd suggest it is far more visceral and hectic than CoD2 - Doom still has an sense of fear and dread even today, even if you know the maps and trigger points; when the lights go out and you hear the sound of the Cacodemon it still gives you the ****s. The map design of most levels is clever, the hidden secrets smart and I've yet to see a FPS today that matches what Doom provided.

CoD is a fantastic game too, but Doom has a clear place in history and so is deserving to be in such a list.

The Edge Top 100 is being reported on loads of US game sites, spouting off such claimed as 'highly respected magazine Edge' and the like. Bloody hell, regardless of your opinions of the mag, they're still a mag like any other. You can apply the same to the likes of Famitsu and their often questionable review scores, of course.

I think most of the top 10 is pretty justifyable though, even if we may disagree on the order. I'd never say Halo was top 10 material though, especially when Goldeneye isn't there. Then again, I consider Sonic 3 & Knuckles to be the second best platformer of all time, behind only Mario World. Opinions and all that.

RE4 is a strange entity to me. I adore the game, the most groundbreaking title of recent times, and my favourite game of the last generation. On the other hand, if I was to be asked which Resi had the best plot, which Resi has the deepest back-story, which Resi has the best, eeriest atmosphere etc, I'd be saying the older Resi games on every count, dispite the fact RE4 is 'better' (and don't get me wrong, I adore it).

Resi 4 just wasn't a Resi game really was it? It became a new entity imo.

They vanished along with the level design.

Nope, it wasn't a Resi game, it was a 'Leon is gonna shoot you, you mug' game - a new genre entirely. Resident Evil 2 is still my favourite Resi game so far but I have to say Resi 4 is (obviously) the better game out the two.

                    FF12 in the top ten?

                    WTF?

Edge is, and always has been, full of ****.

I believe Edge readers chose the top 100, not the writers.

but I thought this was a user driven list.

is everything automatically **** if you don't agree with it ?

The missus bought me a copy and just brought it into work and showed me.

I don't dig the list personally. There isn't enough DS in there for starters.

Where'd Killer7 come out of curiosity?
