I think they recognise that the official wheel shouldn't be extortionately priced, which the G25 is/was. That's actually been superseded now by a G27. I was very close to getting a G25 a while back, it looks like an incredible piece of kit.

The G25/27 is a must if realism is a factor. Clutch pedal and gearstick in H.

Yes, as far I as I know it has been confirmed by Sony as well, I've played it at Gamescon in 3D at the Sony stand.

I don't have a wheel at the moment but being lucky enough to have friends who are seriously into their sims I've been able to test a few over the past year or so before deciding which to go for.

I think much of it has been covered already but the Logitech Driving Force GT is the official GT5 wheel and the follow up to Logitech Driving Force Pro. There are some marked improvements moving to the GT model as they've replaced some of the older technology with the same technology that's found in the Logitech G25.

As mentioned, the Driving Force wheels are reasonably priced so that people can pick it up with the game. You can get them for around ?70 and it's a good wheel for what you're paying.

You then have the mid range models which are still available over the counter and include Logitech's G25 and G27 as well as Fanatec's Porsche 911 Turbo & Fanatec's Porsche 911 Turbo S models.

I'm not sure if it's still true but I know in the past that the two Logitech wheels weren't compatible with the 360 so a Fanatec wheel would perhaps be a better option if that's an issue. Check about the Logitech wheels though as they may well be compatible now.

If you are thinking of getting a wheel to on your 360 my first bit of advice is to avoid the official wheel at all costs. There are some serious design issues with it if you're serious about driving games/sims, the main one that stuck out for me was the 180? rotation compared the 900? rotation that you should get and do get on the other wheels I've mentioned.

Everything about it just feels cheap even at the budget price you can get it for now and I'd suggest that you'd probably get just as good an experience using the pad.

Out of the wheels that I've mentioned it's very difficult to recommend one over the other apart from if you're thinking about getting the G25, you may as well go for the G27 as there's nothing the G25 does better.

The Fanatec wheel worked well but there was a couple of things I didn't get on with but I think you can work around them if you want that wheel. The mounting includes two bars that the gear stick attaches to and that just isn't solid enough for the cost.

There was also a little too much movement in the base of the wheel mount, it really wasn't much movement but any movement at all is noticeable.

There is of course the option to hard mount mount the wheel which I'd imagine stops both of these problems.

It is a very good set-up though and if you have the chance the best ting you can do is to use the wheels as they all do a similar job and the differences can be down to personal preferences.

I still have decided about a wheel to be honest, I think that I've ruled out the Fanatec. It wasn't that it did anything wrong, I just preferred the wheel of the Logitech wheels.

I still quite like the Driving Force GT even though it's a lot cheaper than the others. One of the things I like about it is the fact that it feels more convenient, it's more compact and has less pieces. It loses out in other areas but things like just being able to unplug a cable and stick it under the bed do need be considered too.

As you can probably tell, I have no bloody idea what the hell I'm going to do yet and any of the four could be the one I buy!.

I've just played Wipeout and SuperStardust at a friends place and those 2 look amazing in 3D.
GT5 at the Sony stand had only 1 set up with 3D, so it was crowded with lots happening around the player, beside that, it was only as small 3D screen so unfortunally I didn't find the 3D effect that good at the show, I thought Sony would pack out the big guns and really show of the 3D games at the show, it's a shame they didn't... I was hoping to be blown away by playing GT5 in 3D at the show , I think Sony could have done more with this at the show.
Cockpit view gave the best impression of racing in 3D, I have to wait now for the final release to check out how it's gonna be in 3D...

All this said, I think with right set up it will look really good in 3D, considering WipeOut and SuperStardust are both pretty amazing in 3D.

Coming back to the steering wheels, at the show I've played GT5 at the Sony stand with some cheap versions of the Logitec wheels (don't know which exect Logitec wheel was it though..), and I found not so good, there was no good FFB, however at another stand the game was playable with the G27 wheel, now that was a total different story, it felt spot one and much better then the ones I used at the demo stand.
For me it's probably gonna be the Fanatec Porsche Turbo S wheel because it's compatible with both 360 and PS3, when I only needed one for the PS3 would consider the G27 wheel as well...
Both Porsche and G27 wheel felt pretty good giving excellent feedback while racing.

Best start the housekeeping, for those of you that are starved of storage!

Lol, it's gonna be worse than Heavy Rain. An hour of installing, then you'll have to do a massive update. Ready to go now? No. You've gotta transfer all your cars from the PSP game over first.

Might be a good idea queuing up at midnight for once.

I guess you lot getting that ltd edition one will be able to play with your car, try your t-shirt on and drink your GT themed milkshake or whatever while you wait.

I'll do what I always do with long installs - start it off hours before I intend to start playing.

I seem to be able to avoid this part by ignoring the PSP exists

I only use my PS3 hard drive for game installs so I'm ok for now. I doubt a 10GB install will take an hour, though.

If only there was some kind of background install option that installs the important stuff first and then other bits later. Or imagine custom installs? You could have a checkbox to choose what bits to install. I can see that idea crumbling before my eyes but I reckon PS3 games are going to rely on larger and larger installs as time goes on. That drive's not getting any quicker, after all.

Did the 6GB+ install make much of a difference to Prologue? I didn't bother trying it without. This game does only required hdd space of 256MB to use as a buffer though so it shouldn't really be an issue for people especially as installs are now very rare as developers know how to optimise data for the PS3.

I'll probably install it though as I imagine installation accounts somewhat for the quick loading of the longer tracks such as Nordschleife.

Anyway, I've decided to finally order a Logitech G27. This was my favourite off the shelf wheel and there seems to be quite a community using it. It seems that it has quite a following on the mod side of things with this bloke being a bit of an expert as he's done things like adding a real steering wheel and hand brake.

The installation took ages on GT5P. The Spec III update took even longer. I got rather annoyed with it TBH. I think only MinGol 5 took longer.

Installs are common still. The only game I can think of that doesn't have an install is FFXIII.

Really, I honestly can't remember the last time I had to install a game.

Yeah, I remember that some people had issues with the P2P downloads in Prologue I didn't have any problems myself. I seem to think that they're moving away from P2P downloads in this game, possibly something to do with the last firmware update which allowed game updates to happen as you play as well as incremental firmware updates in the future?
