It's more common that it isn't optional now, installation is regardless of if you want it or not.

They should give you the choice like Konami do, P2P or direct from the servers.

    Kept you waiting, huh?

As long as installs defeat load times, I'm game. GT PSP's full install really did add to the fun of the game. But a LOT of games do install. Some like Heavenly Sword do it stealth but do take 2 or 3gb from your HDD.

Problem is that a lot of installs are mandatory, and yet give you the idea the load times are still ropey. While other games run really good without installing any data at all. Its probably an optimization issue, or its just lazyness.

Regarding the download of updates, its only Japan developed games I've had problems with. GT5 Japan PSN version being the biggest culprit, although the retail European copy went smooth for me.

Hahah the first post of this thread 'possibly delayed until 2008' more like almost 2011.

I'm almost 100% sure GT5P forces the install as I deleted my install by accident instead of my save (I'd downloaded a save with all cars unlocked) and had to reinstall when I played it. I was in a rush so I would have declined given the choice just to try out the cars for all of ten minutes.

The thing I find with game installs is that they're mostly either forced with no way out (MGS4, Heavy Rain) or forced in the sense that the game loads so painfully slowly without them that you're 'forced' to install even though it's an optional (Tekken, Blazblue), simply to retain your sanity.

To be honest, I get in a huff about it on PS3 but I install all my 360 games anyway. Although if it's something super amazing and it drops through the letterbox ten minutes before I leave for work (like SSF4 did), it's nice to be able to have a quick go and then install it for quietness/speed later.

I think it's safe to say the days of putting a game in and just playing it have long gone, unless it's on the Wii. I still remember borrowing a Core 360 from work when they first came out and not being able to play PGR3 in multiplayer with my mates because I couldn't make any profiles. I was berry angry that weekend and I think I bought a Megadrive in response.

This must be the longest headlines thread ever. In fact I would say there is more anticipation in this thread than the first time most people lose their virginity.

They better have sorted the terrible online patching feature from 5P, because that was pretty much unusable, so it could ruin the game.

As the Ps3 is notorious with its installs, its a relief that Sony didn't opt for patented HDD's like MS did. I'm sure Sony knew all this on forehand. Its great that these prices go down so quickly. I paid about 70 quid for a 160gb back in 2007. I think you can get a 500gb for that price now.

Some MS fans did bitch about installs, but to be fair the likes of Gears of War, Quake IV and others could use an install too. Those load times were absolutely terrible, as was the wear 'n tear on those DVD's.

While GoW did take a while to load stuff, what I loved about it was that it spun the drive down when it wasn't loading anything. I've no idea what other games do that (if there are even any others) but that was a welcome relief from the usual DVD drive noise, and this was long before we could install the games. I'm not sure if it was a drive-specific thing, though.

Well, the G27 is on it's way to me and I'm in contact with the people Wheelstand Pro to get a few answers before I order one. The stands seem to be highly recommended in quite a few places, has anybody on her used one?

At the moment I keep telling myself that every single person in my family will be convinced that it was worth the expenditure the first time they drive the Jaguar XJ13 in cockpit view around an empty Nordschleife using the G27...

I don't for a second believe that's what will really happen but in all honesty, I have nothing else, that's as good as it gets!

                      John.

Yes I have a wheel stand pro. Bought it for Forza3 and use it with the official MS wheel. It's build quality is excellent, strong tubular design with rubber feet, quick release clamps etc... The only thing I dont like with the MS wheel is the footplay to secure the pedals to the wheelstand but its a minor issue.

As for using the thing. I needed something that would be easy to setup and use with minimal fuss. If you're in the same boat this is probably the best thing you can get. As they say on their website you really can be up and running in minutes. You can also adjust it very, very easily on most of the settings because of the quick-release clamps.

What I found most surprising though is how sturdy it is when in use. I cant comment on anything other than the MS wheel but even with my height (6ft 3in) and using force feedback the wheel doesnt jump around at all. Your body and heel placement really does an effective job of bracing it in place without any actual physical stress. All up... highly reccomended.

If I had space and money to burn I'd probably have invested in a cockpit type setup but really this works great and I've no complaints on the cost given how much I've used it since purchasing it.

Thanks, what do you think of it?

It seems to be the most suitable thing out there for me as it needs to be pretty compact. Nothing to do with space, it's just that when it turns and I inevitably get smacked around the head with it due to surprising everybody here...I'd really prefer to be smacked around the head with smaller and lighter bits of stuff instead of bigger and heavier bits of stuff!

                          EDIT:
Forget the question, I didn't realise you'd posted on the page before also.

                            Lol... no worries.

It's main plus is the ability to quickly setup/fold down and even tweak once you're sat down. I had some mates over doing time trials one night and we were constantly adjusting the thing for each persons turn and it's a doddle. There is one bolt for wheel angle which doesnt have a quick-release lever but I've since replaced this on mine for one to make it all fully adjustable on the fly.

You've just laid down £250 John, on top of the game. Dare I ask which version of the game you went for? Most expensive non-retro game purchase of all time?

It was a bit less than that, £229:00 on play.com.

It is a lot of money for anything gaming related but I'm a big fan of driving games and a decent wheel can really expand the experience with the better games and this is exactly the sort of game that will benefit from a good wheel.

I suppose it's much like any other specialist gaming hardware such as cabs and that sort of thing. Always seems a bit bad how much people spend on those and the actually games but I can understand the attraction to them.

This is pretty much as good as you can get at the moment unless you want to pay nearly £1000:00 for a specialist wheel like this one which would be completely wasted on someone like me.

It's been paid for with stuff I've recently sold on here so I've not actually spent any new money on it.

I'm really not sure what to do with the game yet, I was considering the Stupid Edition purely for the extra DLC but I'll more than likely go for the Not Quite As Stupid Edition and see if I can pick up a DLC code elsewhere.

Has it been confirmed anywhere that the Game Group have exclusivity on the top two editions? I've not seen it confirmed anywhere but nowhere else seems to selling it now. I know that they no longer get anything but standard editions in store unless people pre-order them so I may have to do that as they're often really crap for getting games out on time.
