I think 'tire' was the original spelling and that the british went off with the more stylish 'tyre'.

      Here you go, from Wikipedia

The outer lining of a wheel, which contacts the road or rail and may be metal or rubber. Canada as U.S. Tire is the older spelling, but both were used in the 15th and 16th centuries (for a metal tire); tire became the settled spelling in the 17th century but tyre was revived in the UK in the 19th century for pneumatic tyres, possibly because it was used in some patent documents,[92] though many continued to use tire for the iron variety. The Times newspaper was still using tire as late as 1905.
More than you could ever want to know about the word!

I'm going to buy it off PSN, not worried about having a "physical" copy. Just under 4,000 JPN PSN points

          Renchi/Game Choice Club/Ebay otherwise I suppose.

I was going to download it, but it seems Wirecard doesn't work for me on the Jap store anymore. Works on the US store fine.

            Still work for you?

I have a horrible, uncomfortable feeling that we may be out of luck with the PSN cards as Sony are introducing completely new cards on the 13th which is the same day that GT is due for release!
Sony have today announced the imminent release of their PlayStation Network Cards (these are new, not the already-released "tickets"), which will be let loose on Japan on December 13.

Arriving in two flavours, one for ?3000 and one for ?5000, they'll carry a 12-digit number on the back which users will input into their PSN wallets. Just like the 360's and Wii's cards, then, if that makes things easier.

All that's left is to start sacrificing farm animals in the hope these can be imported to work on dummy, foreign Japanese PSN accounts.

Erk! Can't stop the old ones working though if people have bought them, surely?

edit: Dunno why Erk at all actually. Maybe having a JPN PS3 might work in my favour for once!

I don't actually know if they'll be able to stop any to be honest. I just don't like the way it's happening on the same day as what will probably be their biggest download.

I'm going to make sure my points are on well in advance of the 13th though!

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's release date is finally known for North America. GT5 Prologue will be out in Japan this December and the North American version will be released on February 19, 2008.

US release date for Prologue - February 19th 2008. It's actually sooner than I expected, so I'll be waiting rather than picking up the JPN version I think.

It's not that so much. I know most people don't care, but it really does detract from the experience for me if I don't know exactly what everything is just by looking at it. I can get by OK once the menus are translated, but the text on completing challenges etc. would be unknown and it would annoy me to the point that I'd just end up picking up the US version as well.

I can understand that, but do keep in mind that you`ll be joining up at the same time as lots of American school kids.

I have no idea of the status of the server options but I`m sticking with a JP version on my JP console. If it means I end up staying Japan side then fair enough.

Hehe. Despite me taking huge amounts of interest in the online side of games I almost always completely ignore that aspect when it comes out. Only Warhawk so far this year that I've played online to any extent.

I'm even planning on buying UT3 next week, which will no doubt be a huge waste of cash for me personally.
