What has everyone been playing this week?

Played through and completed Metroid: Other M on the Wii, and loved it. Only had 51% of the items at the end though (and by the end, I mean the very end... ) so still a load more places to explore.

Other than that, played a bit of Sonic & The Black Knight (absolute ****e, bought it because it was cheap but honestly never expected it to be quite that bad) and some more Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney on the DS. I've played through all the other Ace Attorney games this year and this is the last one I've got to do. Plenty of real laugh out loud moments in it, love the way Prosecutor Gavin keeps calling Apollo 'Herr Forehead' and the constant references to Trucy's 'magic panties'

Finished up BloodRayne 2, played a few hours of Idol Janshi wo Tsukucchaou on the Dreamcast until I was satisfied that I'd seen all the different endings, gave Jet Set Radio a try but gave up in frustration...

...and now I'm playing Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands on the PS3. It's nice that Ubisoft finally made a sequel to Sands of Time, I never understood why they let the franchise lie fallow for so long.

Same old same old, Ibara PCB (hit 3.92mill and level 4 for the first time) and words/chess with friends on iPad.

Back playing Killzone 2. That is one mighty fine FPS. Only FPS I've enjoyed more (excluding the Metroid Prime games) is Halo CE.

After replacing my PS3 recently and redownloading everything from the PSN I have been replaying some oldies to make sure everything is fully patched on the HDD.

Lumines Supernova was the most fun I had doing that. I used to play Lumines regularly to prevent getting rusty, but haven't been able to since my normal PSP died last Christmas - (there was always something else to play when I had PS3 time). Did time attack 300 first to re-acquaint myself and I logged my second best ever score!

I also had to go back through After Burner Climax unlocking all the EX options from the beginning again. That's not much of a problem though as I am still playing it fairly regularly anyway. Got a new personal best in score attack too

Other than that, it's all BlazBlue CS. It's a brutal game though, my sessions have to be fairly short or I end up in a foul mood.

I've been playing Resident Evil : Code Veronica on the Dreamcast and Assassin's Creed II on the PS3. Code Veronica is something of a landmark for me, it's the fourth game in the RE series that I've tried and the first one that I've actually stuck with past the first half hour.

Assassin's Creed II is also proving to be something of an unusual game, I'm playing it with my wife alongside and we're having more fun tracking down all the little collectibles than we are with the main storyline. We've got the Villa up to 82% and we've just barely gotten to Venice.

I've been playing a little World of Warcraft (Levelling a Shaman, level 31 at the moment), and Yakuza 3. Move will be taking over this evening though I suspect.

Batman: Arkham Asylum. Can't believe it took me so long to get around to this. Awesome game, and I'm not even a Batman nut. I'm not getting the criticisms I keep hearing about lame boss fights, either. They're perfectly fine. The asylum itself is the main star.

Could I still enjoy Batman: AA if I hated the whole modern Batman universe and everything in it?

Still ....... slugging.......my way.......through........Tenchu Z - I'm determined to have at least one XB360 game finished 100% with all Acheivements. This means doing 3 x 50 missions. I'm now up to number 48 and 73 hrs on the clock. You need a very high boredom threshold to spend this amount of time on such an unimaginative game.

There's a decent chance you'd still enjoy B:AA. It's styled more like the graphic novels rather than the recent films and the setting has a faint Bioshock feel to it. The franchise acts as dressing to a solid design.

This Week:

Alien Breed: Impact
Only done the first act but surprisingly decent fun

Halo: Reach
Seems to be a high finish for Bungie, though based on this if Gearbox don't completely overhaul the series with Halo 4 then this could be the beginning of the end as much of it is archaic.

Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions
Chronically short but decent fun, probably better if picked up on the cheap later on. Still not as good as Spiderman 2

Crikey. Tonight has been one of my best gaming nights in.. I don't know how long.

I bought a component lead for my original Xbox from the Trading Folder and soft modded my Xbox so that it will output in (up to) 720p via component.

I also bought a component lead for my Japanese slim PS2 from Charlesr.

All of these games just looked so fantastic - better than they've ever looked before and I'm feeling a whole original Xbox renaissance coming on.

I know I could be playing these games on my 360, upscaled etc. but some of them aren't back compat.

I'm about to stick on Steel Battalion (!!!) and then I'll get all modern with Halo Reach after that.

But crikey.. I'm made up with these component cables..

It's good to go back and remember what makes you smile. I've borrowed Sonic Unleashed PS3 from my friend so I can play the fast levels again in the game. Shame the game wasn't just those as it would have been truly great otherwise.

Still, nostalgia is a beautiful part of human life.

Yeah man - I woke up this morning certain that it can't have looked as good as it did last night - certain that my eyes must have been playing tricks on me..

Steel Batallion is an ace game and now looks fantastic too.
