It's not just you. English is my native language and I still struggle reading posts with little to no punctuation and "creative" syntax.

By the way, I suspect the word needed was "there".

wow is this "controversial scores" month?
a bunch of 2008's biggest games swept under the carpet with 7's - Fallout 3, Banjo, Animal Crossing...

still, at least there's my Left 4 Dead preorder confirmed.

is its a ww2 shooter dose it have a beach landing? or maybe a snowy Russian sniper level? dose it have you wandering about wreaked french villages? I'm pretty sure i did all that in cod 1 2 and 3 and countless other ww2 games, all this generation too whood of thunk it.

Well you could say that about 90% of games. I've shot countless of bug-eyed aliens before in many games before too. I've also walked down countless number of dark corridors in many games before. I've also jumped from platform to platform before in many games before too. Just cos something similar has been done before doesn't mean a game should be marked down for it. The question you have to ask yourself is "was it enjoyable?" or "was it done well?". My answer to those in regards to Call of Duty: World at War would be a resounding yes.

Similar you say not near on identical which i feel this is, if you want more of the same then why not its your money but don't bitch about it when they don't give it a nine or ten because to me this is a step back.

I gave up half way through cod3 because dejavu was creeping in, where as cod4 felt fresh and kept me entertained all the way through offline. the online stat grinding and status rewards where also a breath of fresh air, then again japs shouting banzai and a flame thrower are new i suppose, is that worth 40 quid to me though?

I wasn't aware of me bitching to be honest.

EDGE can give it whatever score they want, it is their opinion but I don't have to agree with it.

Call of Duty 4 did feel fresh and it was entertaining but would it have felt the same if it didn't have the whole modern warfare angle?!

I've been a bit sad about recent EDGE threads; there were no arguments, no name-calling. And here we have it: an issue of controversy - yay!

If you were to lay out the review scores from the last three or four issues, you would get a much more even spread. It just so happens that there were loads of good scores in previous months and less this month. Some games live up to expectation, whilst other fall by the wayside. What's amazing is that the standard this year (and last) - if you judge them by EDGE scores - is much higher.

The three games highlighted above were highly predictable, though. The only one in question was Banjo - and, from reading the review, it has received a justifiable score. Specifically, the main problem is all the menus, tutorials and waiting around that get in the way of a compelling game.

sorry didn't make myself clear really the bitching comment was more aimed at the don't get the score comment from the other guy.

Some times with these threads i feel that people take these scores personally especially if they have been raving about it in first play, its like they feel there crap game radar is being challenged.

All magazines are an opinion why are people so shocked half the time, it is reading multiple views on games to get your informed decision. It just happens for me Edge seem to reflect the same thoughts as me. I think that they got the scores perfect with the exception of Mirrors Edge as I really enjoyed that.

Just because Edge is the best in terms of how they present and analyse games does not automatically mean they have the same gaming opinions.

From the list Left 4 Dead and Tomb Raider will now be checked out and also might give Red Alert 3 a try.

I would have given CODWAW less than what EDGE said. I went through single player on normal in sub 5 hours. The feeling of Deja VU on the final level into Berlin was scary as i still can not remember which game that was in.

COD 4 was like some one else said that it was a whole new story , whereas CODWAW goes over the same old ground. Perhaps ive just played to many WW2 games now

MOH, MOH underground, Medal of honor allied assault +2 expansions, MOH pacific assault,COD and expansion COD2, MOH airborne and COD 4.

I've never trusted Edge since they marked down Skies of Arcadia just because it conflicted with a big review in the same magazine. It acts like some high brow better than you gaming snoot thats doing us a favour for reading. Its all a bit up its own arse for my tastes.

I think some of the VGI boys should come on and give a blow by blow account of that incident!

Yeah, fallout 3 does seems a low score. I know its a good 9 as my Bro actually stopped playing Everquest2 to play it, and that is the only game they he ever plays lol

I don't really want to get too deeply into this as I stopped caring about Edge a long time ago, but what I can never understand about these threads is how people decide Edge is being controversial simply because it under-scores a game they happen to like a lot. Since when was it the magazine's job to tell people what they want to hear?

In other news, does this new issue have a wall planner as has been the case the last 3 years? If so, I may get it for that...
