There appears to be very few people on the forum that have finished this, so Persona 4 spoilers. Warning, it'll ruin the whole game if you haven't finished it so careful with your highlighting.

Nanako's death. All year you take her for granted, then for the month preceding her death it's setting you up for it. She's in hospital, and every night you come home and it's playing a really sad version of the song it normally plays. You go see where Nanako used to sit and she's absent, you check the fridge and it says "it's the same as it always was." Even that's enough to get you. Then she actually dies, which comes completely out of the blue and, she's a child, man.

About 1000 times sadder than Aeris.

Don't think so I saw it in the cinema when it came out too, so I must have been about 8.

I just think crying at a video game is a bit ..

        haha

I'v never been moved to tears by a videogame either. Thats not to say I don't feel some kind of emotional response (not neccesarily sadness) at a good bit of videogame storytelling.

Most recently there was a 'Punch the air' moment at the end of the Russian campaign in Call of Duty: World at War.

Hardly a tear jerking moment in a games story but I remember playing the ****e that was European Club Soccer on the Megadrive back in the day, there was me, my brother and cousin playing in a tournament, quarter finals my cousins team gets knocked out. He then disapeared for about 20 minutes, found him in the bathroom crying like a bitch, he was about 15 at the time as well. Still give him **** about that to this day.

I think I took a bit of a dislike to it tbh, I remember asking for Fifa International Soccer at the time only for my Mum to buy me that instead, her reply being "Well it's football isn't it". Bleedin useless

                      You sir are clearly heartless

I still well up now at the tender age of 31 whenever Prime does his turn to grey & drops the Matrix.
At the Cinema in '86 I was unconsolable the moment he went I spent the rest of the film in tears...I watched what was left through blurry eyes & it wasnt till the video was released that I actually got to see it all properly (I could fast forward past prime's death you see & save myself the tears )

I am a wimp though when it comes to death's...even TV programmes & Anime get's me welling up if a popular character bites the big one, so many films have reduced me to a blubbering wreck I cant even begin to count them all.

                      Anyway back on Topic.

Cant say I've cried or been sad at a Videogame, although the Gears of War 2 trailer "last day" does choke me slightly, just the use of music & the thought of going to war & possibly not returning hits all the emotions.

and their little blue ghosts that float up too. oh man. i feel your pain on that one. those big, gormless red spotted bugs eating a mouthful of perfectly blossomed adult pikmin. that is just plain horrible.

I've never openly wept at a game, the idea of it is pretty ridiculous actually! I have on the other hand had a moist eye on a few occasions.. actually it tends to be the spine tingles I get when a game hits an emotional nerve. I had the tingles for SoTC. Snake Eater helped me keep my contact lenses moist at the end.

Most recently it was actually LittleBigPlanet, the sequence at the end of the story paths brought a smile and a tear to my eye.. it was a very bittersweet moment. The ending itself is nothing really, but it was the heart and soul behind it that got me, and also a touch of sadness that the game was over.

I think we did this thread already:

But yeah, most videogame attempts at generating real emotion fall totally flat, IMO.

That thread is 4 years old now though, there's been a lot of new games since then!

MGS4 had a few emotional moments, well for me anyway. Like the

first time old withered Snake meets Meryl and just sort of pushes her away cos he doesn't want to get too attached.

. Also a couple of others too, when

EVA dies and when Snake meets Big Boss.
