For me:
1.) Operation flashpoint, 360
Without doubt the best coop game I've ever played. Sitting somewhere between milsim and FPS this game gives casual gamers the chance to take the walk in "Strategic shooter" park, without the need to be anal about why type of rounds to put in a rifle. The A.I, view distance and physical modeling of actual bullets combine to produce the most engaging, tactical and enjoyable game. Tactics such as covering fire work, A.I will react and duck for cover or even run away, allowing fireteams to flank and kill. The tracer fire and even richochets into the air combined with particle physics give a real sense of being pinned down, afraid to stick your head out. The game never plays the same, and now after 30 hours playtime I still feel compelled to play again & again. Sadly their are some bugs with the game, but these have not prevented OF2 from being my #1 of 2009. The PS3 version is significantly weaker graphically & is not included in my vote. I would also include this in the "Everyone should play but didn't" Section.
2.) Uncharted 2, PS3
Simply a wonderfully crafted video game. The best single player experience I can actually remember. Inspired level design & artwork combined with distinct "Shooting, Climbing & puzzeling" sections make this a must buy for anyone. Visually remarkable and voice acting/story that makes other games attempts seem juvinle in comparison.
3.) Killzone 3, PS3
The best looking shooter I've ever played. It's popcorn, it has difficulty spikes, but it is just so damn good. The devs set themselves an impossible challange with their E3 2005 target render, and to this day I still can't quite believe they managed. Awesome.
2009 will be remebered by me as the year that the PS3 delivered on it's promises & become a must buy purchase for anyone serious about games.
