For those that are interested, I am about to complete a pretty cool (IMO) remix of the Resident Evil 2 Safe Room theme.

    Will post it up soon.

The Saturn version is almost identical to the Playstation version, which is a good thing. It had a couple of extras though.

I agree that the original version had some charming features that the remake lacked, namely the music, and I can appreciate it on it's own merits because of that... but there's no doubt in my mind that the remake is superior.

I also think the REmake was far better and even more atmospheric. The only thing i miss about the original was the ultra cheesy but super cool intro and how all the characters were introduced with there own bits of FMV and like you mentioned the B-Movie feel. I was gutted when i saw they hadn't redone that intro with the original actors. And even though i liked the music in REmake i could understand someone preferring the original score as it was very good and still is to this day. In fact its one of the best scores in any game but those 2 things aside the REmake is the best.

Imagine Resident Evil 2 remake with pre rendered backgrounds like the original version only PS3/360 quality!!!

I think it'd be cool if they made a cheesy feature film using the original cast etc from RE1 and released it as part of a RE: Revelations SE.

I especially liked Chris Redfield flexing his jaw muscle.

I played Vanilla RE, Directors Cut on the PS as well as the JP and EU Saturn versions and to me the Saturn version is the best of the lot. The characters look a lot better on the Saturn, you can actually see their faces. They are more akin to the artwork. The backgrounds also seem to be of a higher res. Then there is the Battle mode that the PSX Directors Cut strangely didn't have.

The thing that DC has going for it is the Arrange mode with its much harder difficulty and different camera angles that are pretty cool. This basically makes all versions worthwhile to have.

The Saturn version had a brilliant extra for finishing the game and it controlled the best imo . Not saying for one min the Cube version was poor or bad. Just that I loved the whole B-Move feel and it was liking playing a Lucio Fulci classic (especially the uncut PS/JP versions) and the music was simply much much better and added so much to the game (like of like Dayton isn't Dayton USA with out the singing ).

Though the PS/Saturn music sore was hauntingly beautiful, and to me the voice acting was better

Determined to play through the Saturn version once I get this backlog of games out the way. Want to see Zombie Wesker and the extra tyrant battle. ;p

Directors Cut is worth checking out. If you play through on arranged mode all the items are in different places, which makes things more of a challenge. It's also kind of neat seeing all the different camera angles they added.

If you get the version with the Resi 2 demo try that too. ;p

It’s quite different to the final version.

REmake is my favourite but I think that REmake had atrocious controls. That was solely down to the cube control pad. It really took me ages to get used to it and run through the game.

Crimson Zombies alone make RE better than REmake, nothing but annoyance for annoyance sake that break the atmosphere

And in the end it's all about the Atmosphere

Very interested in RE4 and CV sounds good. Thought a Remake of RE2 wuld have been a better idea though. I'll be interested to see how much better they can make them look.

Saw this and just thought hmmmm. Maybe it will look better in the flesh.

I'm not sure how they broke the atmosphere? If anything they made it better to me, there was actually some element of suspense to do with normal zombies, plus they could run through doors etc.

                        I liked 'em.

They created sections of scrambling panic which the controls and level space weren't cut out for. I'd say take away the visual difference and it's PS1 time

If I remember correctly, you could run right past a Crimson Head without getting hit, every time. Just always walk past their right (or was it left?) side and the way they swing at you they always miss.

Yeah, I seem to remember the Crimson heads being rather annoying, it was satisfying blowing their brains out though.

The Crimsons only appeared if you didn't dispose of dead zombies with fire right? I thought that was a nice touch, walking dead style!
