    Other than having fun?

I think achievements are wank. Totally pointless.

      Totally agree. Good for Nintendo.

Seriously hardly a deal breaker if you are going to buy Wii U or not. Quite frankly i really could not care less about not having achievements. I managed quite alright without any kind of achievements before Xbox 360 and when playing on Wii im not playing and thinking "hmm something is missing". Yes they are a nice side attraction but hardly essential.

          Never a truer word spoken.

For not having distracting pop-ups when I first start a game or other "significant" milestones during the game? Sign me up.

Alot of hate for achievements in here! I find them nice to see that milestones or challenges friends have done in the game, that sometimes you would not normally do. If decent enough they can bring a little extra life into the game then I am all for them.

I'm not against them as such, they are used in such a wasteful manor.

Resident Evil 6. Got 5g for going into the action figures menu. What?

I've no problem with achievements, as long as there's an option to turn off pop ups in game. I wouldn't care less if they were absent, though.

I dont hate achievements, in fact they are quite fun sometimes but i just cant believe people having a pop at Nintendo over it. I mean to say Nintendo have "no excuse really" is going overboard. If i was playing a Wii U game i probably would not have even noticed if nothing had been said.

It's going to be hard for Nintendo I think as the "Online" service has to match up what we have seen already or be better than on the 360/PS3. For parties, chat, cheevs etc 360 is a clear winner as its just so easy. PS+ is a clear winner for content in other respects.

We will just have to see what the Nintendo plaza brings in the way of social communication and content.

Achievements isnt a killer for me, but ill miss party chat. Its one of the main reasons I buy games I am going to play online on the 360, even if sometimes I miss out on bits of PS3 exclusive content.

                        Nintendo Wii U

In a personal manner I am definitely pro-achievements, and whilst a lack of them won't stop me buying a new console or cause me any sleepless nights, it's common knowledge that it does matter a lot to a lot of people and would certainly help sell more machines. With that in mind, I'm more frustrated that Nintendo aren't doing all these obvious, simple little things that are well within their power to make the system more successful.

I'm not necessarily against achievements as such, but I think out of the list of challenges Nintendo will face regarding the implementation of their online network and having to play catchup in this regard, achievements are quite far down the list of concerns.

Glad no achievements. Beating the game - that's an achievement. Getting a higher score than your mates - that's another, getting the highest score in the world - that's another. Just 3, that's all you need.

I think you need an achievement for completing 2 player Ikaruga on your own though.

Exactley this, Nintendo seriously have to get online functionality working properly this time round. Nintendo could get away with it with Wii as they could just use that as a learning tool in order to progress to a much more advanced online system, much like Microsoft did with the first Xbox.

Im not a great lover of online multiplayer, i dont really enjoy the experience unless lucky enough to find decent people to play with, which in my experience is very rarely. But i do realise that in order for the Wii U to compete for the biggest 3rd party games Nintendo's online network has to be as good as Xbox Live and PSN as multiplayer is pretty much included in every game nowadays and season passes and DLC are now whats making companies big bucks. Im really, really hoping Nintendo does not mess about with friend codes etc because if it does it could eventually end up having piss poor ports of games just like the Wii did because if no money is made from DLC etc, 3rd party developers just wont put the effort into Wii U. This for me is so much more important than any kind of achievement system.
