For me this comes at a good time when I can't justify the expense of a console I won't play that much.

    For me.

not really true. They are just covering their arses. I have an external USB that requires me to use a 'Y' connector on all my PCs because it draws so much power. I have another one that works with just a single USB connection because it needs less power. Ninty have said that some USB drives will need a Y cable connected to both USB ports on the WiiU. This is normal for some USB drives.

Ah fair enough. I hardly have any experience with them so wouldn't really know!

Contacted SHOPTO again today to clarify my zombi u pre order,as i was told last week shopto was going to be contacting their pre order customers about the number of launch machines they will have access to on the 30th november.
They still dony know anything regarding this which i find a bit annoying being just over two weeks to launch day

Surely ShopTo must know by now how many units they have been allocated? What worries me is the system they are using to actually allocate orders. It wouldn't surprise me if they just did it on a random basis.

C, Doesnt have any effect on people like yourself who play the game and dont give a damn about achievements.

I understand that some people are not bothered with achievements, but voicing against it is just pointless hot air in the large scheme of things. There is demand for such a function and its nintendo doing what they always have, and always will do.

To be indifferent is fine, but how can anybody be against such a thing?...if you dont care for it then it means nothing either way.

On a personal note trying to push for 1000g has made me discover really cool parts of a couple of games i would have otherwise quit after flying through on normal mode. Case in point zombies mode in COD blops....i had a quick blast to try and finish off the last remaining achievements after completing the game on veteran, and had i not had those extra few achievements to give me that extra motivation, i never would have discovered the wonders of zombies mode. Funnily enough that was the first time i bothered to try for 1000g just because i did veteran and was almost there.

But i can think of many cases where people have probably stuck out at a particular game thanks to the achievements system, and become so much more engrossed thanks to these objectives. Like if you are new to street fighter 4, and the drive for training achievements make you a better fighter, and thus improve the fighting game community as the result of pushing for people to learn properly.

Of course not all of them have a positive spin, but they are harmless and people seem to like them generally.

Overall i'm not pro achievements and have only 1000g'd two games, but i hate it when people actively stand against it, or pointlessly defend nintendo's backward view on the matter.
But having an achievement system will change the way games are designed. Also, I really wouldn't expect them to bother putting in such a simple function as to turn off notifications for achievements that utterly destroy any immersion you might have in the game and its most dramatic scenes (I've seen this happen on countless 360 games. It's laughable. In the Walking Dead the achievement notifications even block out lots of the split second decision text boxes. G-g-g-genius!). Also, if people who like pointless crap are unhappy, that makes me happy

Surely Shopto must prioritize the people who pre-ordered the day they went live with the confirmed bundles? One slightly good thing is i noticed that they have on the product details that if they fail to deliver a Wii U on day of release they will give you ?5, better than nothing i guess.

Tell you what's laughable, there's an option on 360 settings to turn off notifications, so if your playing an immersive game no achievements, friends or notifications will pop up.
Always switch it off if I'm in the zone with my headphones on.

Yes i'm positive that dev teams sit down before development and think "right we must design the game based solely around this list of dreamed up achievements"...

                        That's absurd.

The simple fact is that while there is plenty of demand, its only hindering progress not to include such wanted features. And yes family fry...

Yes, I realise that. It's not me playing the games, it's my friend. Obviously, he needs to see the achievements because he cares about getting them, but at the same time nobody wants them jumping up obnoxiously, obscuring the game at vital moments. It's either on or off. My point was that Nintendo probably wouldn't include the option to turn them off, because they're not in the habit of offering blindingly obvious conveniences. If you can't turn off the bull**** health and safety warnings EVERY GOD DAMN TIME you start your system, I see no reason that they'd allow you to switch off achievements.

And yes, achievements do affect game design. A decade ago, a ridiculously tough gaming challenge would almost always result in some kind of reward such as a new level, vehicle, gun, costume, power up etc. Now there's no need for devs to put in that effort because the achievement is now the reward. Hence game design is affected. Not absurd, if you use your brain for 2 seconds.

You would have thought they new the allocation numbers by now getting a bit itchy now about it as I've wanted a zombi u pack from day one

So what you're saying is games are better without them as we'll most likely got proper rewards.

                                It is completely absurd.

I wager that loads more people play to such length THANKS to the achievement system, for better or worse.

The lack of unlockables isnt down to it rewarding you instead, rather companies realising in the original xbox days, that people will quite happily pay for small amounts of extra content on consoles.

It would be more accurate blaming the internet phenomenon. Because with that came the option of delivering content the way we get it, to almost every punter. In days of old little extra's were put on disc/cart, or had to be delivered as a fully fledged expansion pack.

Far too easy to blame achievements for the way small content is delivered at a cost.

As soon as the masses were well connected, it was only a matter of time.

Better to have the current achievements than nothing at all.....if they remove them they will still sell you DLC seperate.
