Bit of a stupid comparison a phone to a console they are both completely different products with totally different purposes, yes you can play games on an IPhone but I don't know of a single person who would buy the Phone when the Touch is available if all you want it for is gaming.
It looks like a nice system but it's too expensive for me. If the amazon basic price of ?250 for basic came with a game (zombiU) I probably would have gone for it but at over ?300 with cables etc I will be waiting to see how well supported it is once the other 2 next gen systems drop. That and if it's region locked forget it.

Amazon's showing ?299 for the premium for me at the moment :S. While an interesting idea the only areas where I see the tablet display adding anything are touch screen based strategy games and if doing local multiplayer on one machine. I found the whole MS surface thing made the same misstep too, there is nothing more immersion breaking for me than having to break eyeline with the TV, scan across my room and then focus on a new display. I was still curious about the machine though, but at that current price point for something with such paired down specs, no way.

If anyone wants a white console but is worried about the size of the internal storage:
Nintendo's Wii U will launch with 8GB and 32GB internal memory models, but those limitations will be easily expandable.
"You can plug in a full-on three terabyte hard drive if you want. I'll love you as a digital consumer," Nintendo America CEO and president Reggie Fils-Aime toldEngadget. "The reason we did it that way is that the cost of that type of storage memory is plummeting. What we didn't want to do is tie a profit model to something that's gonna rapidly decline over time. We'll let the consumer buy as much as they want, as cheaply as they want."
The memory expansion, like that on Sony's PlayStation 3, will be available through USB on Flash sticks or external hard drives.

Yeah ?300 is fking steep but then I will be selling my modded Wii with like 30 games so at the very least I should be able to cut that down by half I would have thought, So not too bothered myself.
I do agree with Guts though, people will quite happily pay ?500 for a phone (or equiv ?700 a year with contract) and then go and spend ?100 a month to get all the Sky channels, but when a console comes out for ?300 they suddenly go ape and say its not worth it!
On Shopto now cancelling my old preorder and ordering the new stuff!

Thought the conference was ok, much better than the dismal E3 showing but there's still a lot of stuff unanswered and not an awful lot new that was shown. First with the negatives, the white console being the basic one is a joke, I'm only after the white one but if I go down that route im missing out on some pretty cool stuff. Speaking of which limiting their Nintendo network premium service or whatever it's called to only the people buying the black console is a joke, the program should be available to everyone who spends money on the eshop, it's basically a copy of the Xbox live rewards program and is a bit of an insult to those who don't want a black system. Lastly and perhaps more worrying is the complete lack of Japanese third party support, I would have thought that there would be more shown in the Japanese conference but no. Konami was a complete no show, not even a winning eleven title, and with platinum making 2 wii u games why on earth is metal gear rising not on the system? Capcom has only 1 game and although it a big one for Japan it is at the end of the day a high res port of a year old 3DS game. Where's resi 6, street fighter x tekken, dragons dogma, dmc, lost planet etc? Same for namco. Square Enix has dragon quest x but nothing else as well.
On the positive side I think the launch lineup is really strong with some really great looking games, mario is looking better and better, as does zombie u, Nintendoland, rayman and cod. Bayonetta 2 and monster hunter getting a western release were awesome surprises. But there's still a lot that we don't know about the eShop. Will GameCube and wii games be added to the service? Are we going to see more VC and VC Arcade games getting regular releases etc?
