On a personal level, I don't necessarily care about the branding, and looking at the mess that occured with Outrun and the loss of the Ferarri licence, it might be better to not have to branding. Saying that however, the Daytona USA series has developed cult status over the past 10 years, and this can really make games interesting to newer gamers who might have missed them first time around and want to see what all the fuss was about. The recent Treasure releases being a good example.

what chance would you have of winning if placed at the back of the grid of a 40 car race on a 3 lap oval, with 39 other good players?

Easy if there will be DLC to have a bonnet mounted gun

Because SEGA didn't have the licensing, Sega Racing Classic had all the Daytona related decals removed and a different soundtrack. This combined with rushed emulation and LCD screens meant it lost some of its soul, and by all accounts looked worse than the vintage cabs.

A console version would have a much bigger budget and it looks like SEGA saw sense and gave the rednecks their cut. I hope so anyway. There are always custom soundtracks I guess.

This is what I was meaning. SEGAs in house XBLA stuff has been superb.

The same as if you were playing a single player game with very good AI, since the Beginner, Medium and Advanced courses have 40, 30 and 20 cars respectively.

Bar the name and the music I saw next to no difference what so ever. I'm sure a home port could use the music minus the audio track (just like the bonus music tracks on the Saturn version) to insure the classic tunes make it over, if SEGA can't use the Daytona rights.

1 in 39 I guess. But in an Arcade game and all about having fun imo so I wouldn't be taking the racer too seriously, it just be fun and nice to have a 40 on-line battle for some full on madness . That said 20 would do, or the 8 Arcade Player mode would be more than enough as long as its a perfect port of Daytona USA . I'm must have sunk more that a grand into the Arcade machine over the years, and its almost a dream to have a perfect port in the home

the point i'm trying to make is that the person in 1st, has a massive advantage in such a short race - from what i remember, you could pretty easily brezze up to about 6th position in Daytona, until the AI got challenging

8 player online is just fine by me, seeing as the original was up to 8 players anyway. Of course, a lot has changed since Daytona first came out so 40 players online would be cool from a technical standpoint but I just want it to be as close to the original as possible. Also, I quite like how you'd see the brightly coloured player cars among the purple AI cars. Not trying to shoot down anyone's hopes(I'd love 40-player online just as much as any of you) but imagine how long it would take to fill a 40-player lobby. Not to mention, I expect 30-35 of those to quit mid-race when they realise they're not going to catch up in time.

I'd also rather it weren't PS3 only, even if just for a while. I want it on XBLA

I really hope this contains the extra courses from Daytona USA CCE, because they were actually really fun. I believe the Dreamcast version contained these courses. This video is from the Saturn version of CCE though. I didn't like the Dreamcast version much.

Using this as an excuse to post this for anyone who hasn't already seen it. Given this is impromptu, it's awesome.

Such a shame then, it was missing the Model 2 stunning textures and lacked the Model 2 AI and the way AI cars would crash and bunch you in, on the sides of your car . Only the Saturn AM#2 version brought home the AI and the Model 2 textures imo

I just hope the handling feels right. I'd like a HD remake, as the original graphics won't look too good on an LCD. The online side of things needs to be rock solid too.

The Saturn version feels nice, but looks bad. The Dreamcast version feels bad, but looks nice. It's about time there were a perfect home version.

The original arcade machine still plays well - and I think even younger games who haven't played the original.. would appreciate why it's a fun game and enjoy playing it. I can only hope that Sega get everything right.
