Yes, they are a shell of their former self but if they'd persisted making new consoles they'd be completely non-existant. Nintendo, somehow, are still relevant in the handheld market but I imagine phone games are reducing the viability of that market. In the home console market they pulled a master-stroke with the Wii but I look back at that console as totally missed potential and I don't think they can get away with it again.
Put Zelda, Mario galaxy and Metroid Prime on PS4. Add in all their old titles on PSN.
They won't do any of this of course as they have too much pride.
You cannot simply underestimate hardware losses based off a few regularly popular franchises "coming at some point".
I do think WiiU will end up a steady seller, but like i said earlier it will never be what the Wii was. The Wii also launched at a great price, and quickly came down to peanuts...meaning many kids ended up with this console by virtue of price alone in the end, and all those system saving games could be said to have succeeded so massively by virtue of console numbers.
Take away the massive hardware figures and it doesnt matter if willy wonka adds a golden ticket, there will only be so many sold.
And at ?275 for a premium box during holiday seasons where ps3/360 are selling for ?150...
However i dont think the WiiU will fall completely flat on its face, but its success will be more of a gamecube than a Wii.
So no big worries, but for this reason they will feel the losses all the more, especially if what they say is true about losing on each machine. I mean they profited on the Wii from day one.
A proper price cut is inevitable.Last edited by PaTaito; 06-03-2013, 12:44.

When Mario Kart (or Monster Hunter in Japan) etc. ship out Wii U will start to sell.

MHP3rd has elements of Tri and of 2ndG plus new stuff. MH3U (WiiU/3DS) has everything from 3rd (apart from the Tiggrex) and Tri AND new stuff.

As long as it sells enough units so that devs will at least consider putting some exclusive, that's the important bit, and I am sure they will once the price drops a bit and some more software appears.
The trouble is that every large corp these days is obsessed with the almighty profit, and sales figures, which if they don't meet the targets (which are usually completely unrealistic anyway) they pull the plug on whatever it may be (game, TV show etc)
The WiiU is doing fine all things considered, it just needs to world and the peeps in it to stop being utterly stupid.

Everything after that was pants for the most part IMO, N64, Game Cube and Wii.
a system that was supported even worse than the Wii was or the Wii U will ever be by third parties
There's more life and more going for the Vita these days than the Wii U which sums it all up

This kind of talk is cyclical by generation. I remember the exact same things said on the eve of the DS and PSP launching, there was widespread dismay across the forum that the PSP seemed a dead-cert to crush the DS. It looked way nicer, it had way better graphics, and it could play back movies and music as well (a much bigger deal in 2004 than it is now).
If there's one thing that Nintendo have shown, it's that most people don't actually care about graphics that much. I'm not saying Wii U will replicate the success of the Wii, but it's certainly going to be around for a while yet.
The Vita on the other hand is threatened by a variety of factors, not least that the real-world value of handheld games now hovers someone around 65p, and everyone already owns pocket game systems capable of impressive 3D graphics that they carry everywhere. And on top of all of THAT, it plays host mostly to games that only the hardcore are really interested in - e.g. Persona 4, NG Sigma 2, PSO2 et al. I love my Vita very much but it's completely reliant on the PS4 for relevance in the marketplace at this point.Last edited by wakka; 06-03-2013, 15:27.

At what point in the past were corporations not focused on profits?
Capitalism in its truest form works for the world, sadly over the last 10 years or so its been perverted into pure greed, and the world or the people in it are not getting better for it.
