This thread has been like the street fight from anchor man. Things really got out of hand, like really escalated. Has anyone thrown a trident yet?

Bottom line, the WiiU isn't worth its price tag but if you love Nintendo games its likely it will be in time. My WiiU doesn't get much use at the moment other than as a handy net surfing device but it doesn't worry me, for me its still in a better position than when I owned a Vita. I'm expecting similar issues with the next two machines when they're out as I'm still going to be amazed if they're the grunt horses some peeps hope they'll be.

Id take an original xbox bulky pad, its the ak47 of controllers, will go forever and you can run over it with a tank and still get rumble

I would say its certainly worth the price tag even now, Nintendoland is one of the best games of 2012 , i played it much more than any other console game, .

My wepon of choice, original 360 power pack !

Discussion is always healthy and it's a shame that some can't manage it without taking things to heart or making it personal - especially since it seems there are some on both side of the fence.

All that said (and hopefully this doesn't get me labelled as a militant Nintendo loyalist "justifying my ?300 purchase" ), but it does feel like some people are missing the point by trying to make a song and dance about hardware specs when the system's clearly not about that. If you bought a Wii U on the pretense of it being some kind of next-gen powerhouse then I would be genuinely interested in knowing what it was that brought you to that opinion.

With no great amount of exclusive games available, what else can you possibly base your own value on? i get what you are saying completely, but you are coming from a place where you are likely happy with nsmb and zombieU?

Thats fine, but i take issue when people come down on me for expressing my opinion which for my own situation(not bothered about nsmbu or zombieU, nothing fantastic on the near horizon, and not much hardware prowess for the price) is perfectly reasonable.

Other recent expensive hardware launches have had other features which made them worthwhile even at the launch premium, or killer games from day one...

                      PS3 had blu-ray
360 was the first HD console and had great launch titles like COD2, kameo(for its day looked amazing), pgr etc etc

Now i've said this before multiple times, but if people love the games that are offered with the wii at launch then clearly thats value for them, but not necessarily for everyone else who doesn't want to play yet another nsmb ETC.

So for ?300 in this boat you are left wondering where the value comes in, and given that hardware always drops in price given reasonable amount of time(in the WiiU's case likely before long at all), its fair to question the value of something even based on spec.

Also what about the people who can only afford one main console? Are they not allowed to scrutinise the spec when they are expected to pay top dollar, and yet have to worry they will miss out on a **** ton of decent 3rd party stuff?

Not an issue for pretty much everyone on here, but still...

Anyway you get the point, i'm still looking forward to getting a wiiu when the price is more reasonable.

I never even seen it myself, maybe i was getting a little too flustered with all the hot air about nothing and needed to chill a little.

This thread is full of it. Unusually, for the mighty Bordersdown.
If that's for me...I really don't get how I've been agressive. I'm not saying "NINTENDO IS TEH SUXXORS YOU GUYS BOUGHT A KIDDY CONSOLE LOL!" or any crap like that.

I usually LOVE Nintendo. The Wii U has 2 decent games, if that at the moment (Nintendoland really isn't my kind of game either). I was tempted to get one, but the only thing that looks halfway decent at the minute is Pikmin 3. Hopefully they announce an amazing looking 3D Mario or something soon.

But the reports of things like 20 second load times for menus etc don't exactly make me want to rush out and buy one at the minute. I'd rather wait and see if they become cheaper, if there's any more good games announced and if they fix some of these loading issues.

I mean I have a Vita, and I imagine the same sort of criticism could be thrown at that, it doesn't have that many games on the horizon/ it costs to much for entry. For me, it wasn't. I wanted one because the launch games looked good enough to buy it for me, plus the promise of PSONE games on it and games like uncharted, gravity daze, Persona 4 Golden etc made it worth it to me. But I can understand someone on the other side of the argument. I'm not going to flip out and call them a troll because they say otherwise.

I seriously object to being called a troll just because I won't bend over and give Nintendo ?300 for 1 game I'm slightly interested in that isn't even made by them (ZombiU). In fact I saw them going for ?220 on hotukdeals at one point and even that didn't tempt me. It needs some games to be announced for me to actually care about it and at the minute, just Pikmin on the horizon isn't cutting it. If Zelda is 2 years away then I'm not exactly in a hurry to buy another piece of game hardware when I'm quite happy with my PC/360/PS3/Vita for now. (I know I'll cave when Pikmin 3 comes out but that's how I feel at the minute).

No great amount of exclusive games yet. I've bought a Wii U under the assumption that I'm going to be seeing games released on it for what is probably the next 5 or so years, and given the unique nature of gamepad - like the DS touch screen and the Wiimote before it - I'm expecting there to be more exclusive games to the platform than on the other two "next gen" power-houses. That's personal speculation of course, but I think despite trying to make noises about third party support, you'd have to be fairly deluded to think that Nintendo's strategy was ever about trying to go toe-to-toe with Sony and Microsoft on hardware specs.

If value for money is someone's priority, then it should be obvious to not buy one until the software line-up and the price point are acceptable to your tastes. If you want to pick holes in the meantime, that's fine, but you probably need to realise that most people with an interest in the console care more about the developers who are getting behind it and the games they are making, rather than how many pixels it can push. I'm happy paying what I've paid, and it's nothing to do with the chips in the box or the titles on the shelves right now.

Ok i wasn't trying to troll or flame the thread, if ive upset anybody i apologise. The one thing we can say is we are all different and whats good value for one person might not seem as good to another. But i still say im entitled to express my own personal views on price/games/tech specs. And as said before i would like a WiiU but for me its just too expensive even with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate coming out, and ive nearly every Monster Hunter thats ever been out.

Based on the Wii though I'm personally not willing to gamble on the quality of the games because to me the Wii was overall a waste of money.

Power has nothing to do with it for me either, I bought the 3DS for more than I bought my Vita, which is much more powerful, it's the games I want. And as of yet there are no must haves for it IMO. N64 had Mario 64, Cube had Rogue Squadron, Super Monkey Ball and Luigi's mansion. Wii even had Twilight Princess which was an amazing Zelda game and interesting titles like Trauma center which hadn't been done before. There's nothing like that on the Wii U IMO. I mean you could argue that the Wii's Zelda was the cube one with different controls, but the widescreen/ controls were enough for me.
