I'd put money on it that a fair few of those wii owners consoles are lying at the bottom of a cupboard. I know mine is. I know 2 female wii owners, who havent played anything other than wii sports.....

You really think it has the potential of the wii?
No I don't. But it's foolish to assume that people who owned a Wii won't want to purchase a Wii U to play sequels of the games they enjoyed previously. That's a fairly strong install base if you ask me.

However, this all remains to be seen. The Wii U doesn't have a huge amount of A++ titles out for it currently - which is quite odd when you consider it's been out a year or so.

I think possibly people are waiting on the PS4/Xbox One before making any console purchase decisions. When the Wii was released the 360 was already well established and the PS3 came out around the same time with a fairly weak launch line up compared to the Wii. Although a large amount of the Wii being popular was most likely the appeal to kids and the gimmick of the movement controls which has sort of become a normal thing.

Perhaps I'm just defending Nintendo. I want them to do well and as someone that only had a GameCube for 5th gen, writing off a console is foolish.

I think Smash Bros, Mario, Zelda, Kart etc will all sell hardware but the WiiU will never even get close to half what Wii did. Then again, that's not how Nintendo approaches their business and I'm sure they know that as this isn't their first topple off the top. I imagine they'd be happy to shift a lifetime total of 35m, the system makes a bare minimum of loss per unit and likely won't for much longer. There's certainly been key big mistakes with the WiiU that have cost it, likely permanently, a lot of momentum but it won't be a failure or loss for Nintendo. Just like Sony after PS2, they messed up the transition but there's still at least 4 years to go. They don't need the most powerful hardware at all, they just need to utilise what they do have instead of being so lapse, it was being aggressive with the 3DS that turned it around, not this current slow and steady crawl.

I was simply expressing reasons for buying a Wii U right now.

I'm not sure Mario Kart is the only chance it has left. Wonderful, DK or Bayonetta might end up selling in buckets. Not having played any of them yet I wouldn't know.
My opinion does matter if it is about the masses as we need the machine to sell to guarantee a future. Don't get me wrong, Zombie U looks superb from what I have seen, I like the NSMB games too, I never said they were bad titles. My perspective in this whole debate has been of one of the masses and the fact they are yet to buy into the machine.

Wonderful 101 is another niche IP, it will not sell buckets. Bayonetta is a follow up to a game that moved less than 1.5 million units, not even for most big publishers today to green light a sequel. Mario Kart is the biggest selling game Nintendo have from the Wii left that could really make a difference.

I don't want it to fail, I will buy in when the next proper Zelda titles arrives and X happens. X is a system seller for me but it's still not a mass market title. Nintendo seem to only have limited mass market appeal at the moment which is a shame.

We need the Wii U to sell to guarantee a future of what? Nintendo bringing out another console? Nintendo are playing the ultimate long game I reckon. Nintendo will never cease to be a big player in video games. They are the only dedicated video game company out of the current stable of manufacturers, and have seen their nemesis Sega publish games on their systems. Anybody who writes off Nintendo is a damned fool if you aks me.
              Kept you waiting, huh?

That's what I admire about Nintendo. They're still a true blue video game company.

Like the Hare and the Tortoise?I hope your right and Nintendo don't just retreat into their 3DS shell. Looking forward to the wonderful 101 impressions, that and Monster hunter are the only 2 for me thus far.

It is only in forums like this that merits of the Wii U are discussed, joe public doesn't know about it, 10,000 wholesales in 3 months, come on, at retail is DEAD. No amount of Zelda HD or Mario Karts will change that IMHO. Don't forget a lot the kids who got Wii six years ago are now teenagers and wouldn't be seen dead with a Wii u.

Bloody teenagers. I've tattooed the words 'I have a Wii U' on my forehead.

I do agree with this entirely even if I feel Nintendo are doing Wii U owners a diservice this year. All the good releases are going to the 3DS with console owners having to wait until Spring next year before the games that should have come out in the first 12 months start to actually be released.

Well the 3DS is hardly drowning in AAA releases, it's taken this long to get to a point where i was finally able to say there were some decent games for it. The WiiU needs a price cut it will be the only thing that saves it in the end, people didn't start buying 3DS till they slashed the price & actually started releasing games.

Must be frustrating been a U owner at the moment, games will come but it's weither they can keep it afloat till that point.
