Wii and WiiU look almost identical, in similar packaging, all in the same colour schemes and with an almost identical logo, I would hardly call that people being stupid, it's called poor decisions in branding and marketing.
@kryss, thanks muchly.

Wii is white and the games come in white boxes. Wii U is black, twice the size and the games come in blue boxes. The consoles look completely different, with a different logo. I really don't see how people get them confused.
PS1 and PSOne both have the exact same logo. The same logo that's on PS2, PSX, PS3 and PS4.Kept you waiting, huh?

But they were the same machine, just a different shape?

They were indeed the same machine, but different shapes. Wii and Wii U are different machines and different shapes. Why the confusion?
The white Wii U is being phased out anyway, so it'll only be black now. Regardless it is still Wii and Wii U. Two different names. I don't see how people can't tell the difference between the two. I wonder how NEC got away with all those different models of PC Engine 20 years ago.Kept you waiting, huh?

Because most people simply aren't into games in the same way we are, they look the same to most people, the size is the only really give away and most people just see a picture on the box.
For most they just think a Wii U is a more expensive Wii.
If they had marketed it as the Nintendo HD they would have probably sold 10x the amount.
PSone was a balls up, should have just called the it the Playstation Mini.
Trying to be clever with a brand name is always risky imho.
Keep it simple, let the name tell people what it is, those that know what it is know and don't care, those that don't know don't need to be confused.

So people are wondering why they should buy a more expensive Wii, when they could just buy a cheaper one? It's not the 1970's, I don't get it, people are educated on technology far more than they used to be. When my Dad wanted a Kindle, he googled and found out the differences between the different available models. Don't people do that when they want a Nintendo too? Don't they ask when they go into a store? I just can't get my head around people being blind to the fact that they are different machines.Last edited by J0e Musashi; 28-09-2013, 16:17.Kept you waiting, huh?

Wii2, Super Wii, Wii HD would have all been better. And Joe, no im sorry, as the picture clearly shows, at a glance, even at a second look they can too easily be mistaken for the same system, the U is tiny on the logo. The only comments ive heard from family/non gamers are ho expensive the wii has become lately, or how cheeky it is to charge double for an hd upgrade.
Also at your last comment joe, your probably right, people usually are ignorant and blind to things like that, at least in my experience.
edit. game related question, is monster hunder 4 on wiiu and 3ds or just 3ds, did a quick search and it just showed 3ds.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 28-09-2013, 16:18.

They look nothing alike whatsoever. The buttons and the logos are in entirely different places. The U is huge. There is no way somebody wouldn't notice it. It's like saying the uninformed thought there was only ever one model of Walkman. That's insane.Last edited by J0e Musashi; 28-09-2013, 16:24.Kept you waiting, huh?

All vey different, and then......
Wii vs Wii U
I'm not sure if you're just being a stubborn git, or you do genuinely think they look completely different?
Nintendo had an art of selling to people who weren't gamers, they were the ones who sold their consoles as toys, they grabbed the non gamers, and keeping the name and design so similar was a massive mistake marketing wise in a lot of peoples opinion.

I genuinely think they look completely different. You'd have to be a total fool to think they were the same thing. The Wii U is a much bigger unit. There is a huge red button on the front as well as a huge flap. It's also rounded. As well as that, display Wii U's would always be black, where Wii is always white.
There is absolutely no way that with both choices in front of them a customer would choose the Wii over the Wii U on the basis that they are buying a cheaper version of the exact same console without asking what the differences were. As soon as they tried to purchase a Wii U title to go with their Wii, they would be told instantly that the two are not compatible. You're talking as though the only people who buy Nintendo's are Soccer Mom's, who strangely happen to have no children.Kept you waiting, huh?
