It's not a 3DS title, Koichi Hayashida said they were working on the game for the Wii U even when they were working on SM3DL. This isn't a port. Also, this is a flagship Mario game as it's under the Super Mario series.

I don't see what all the negativity is for really. As i said, it's just fickle gamers complaining for the sake of complaining, even though there could be a perfectly great Mario game in front of them.
Perhaps best not to assume. I'm glad your looking forward to it, and seeing as I already a own a Wii U I'm sure I'll end up buying it - but it's absolutely not the most impressive thing they could have done for the series, that's for sure. It just feels too safe and unimaginative, which is something you would never accuse Nintendo of old...

Loved 3D Land and this does look great also even if I'm not sold on the muliplayer, it's likely to be a great game. Great a 3D Land was though for me the best 2D entries and the 64-Galaxy 2 games were a different league, there's just no way Nintendo can pass this off as the next true entry in the series rather than as a great side addition to the handheld based series. Like with the NSMB series, its going to sell well and be popular (and much better made) but most people playing it are going to be treating it as filler till a true full fledged Mario Galaxy 2 sequel arrives. Really, Nintendo should have at least teased the next Mario to take the pressure off this, if there isn't one in development and this is truly what is coming as the next main Mario game then whilst I'm sure it'll be brill to play, Nintendo will have made an incredibly damaging decision. I'm sure there is one set for late next year though.

The funny thing is, I am literally the biggest Nintendo fanboy out there - have been for years (probably should grow up... by hey ho) and yet I absolutely agree. This is the first time I've accepted that Nintendo have taken the easy route, equally with Retro... They are playing it way too safe for my liking, which is Ironic, because right now it seems they need the exact opposite.

Wasn't Super Mario Galaxy 2 a "by-the-numbers" sequel, and didn't really define anything much further than the first game did?

I'm just comparing SMG2 to SMG1, in the same way I'm comparing SM3DW to SM3DL.

Wasn't SM3DL great? What's wrong with a direct sequel? No one complained about SMG2 being more of the same.

I suppose the core of the issue is that it's not the sequel that people want.

I'm tired of all the Mario and platform games in general.

I loved SMW3d on my 3DSXl, it really is a great game. However..... it felt like a taster for a Galaxy game, and that would be my preference on Wii U.

I also REALLY hope they release SMG1/2 HD on Wii U. Playing 1080p on Dolphin is an incredible experience.

I want a Wii U just for this. Having played bits and seen lots, it's wonderful.

This game looks killer. Gonna pick up a Wii U in the New Year (hopefully dirt cheap) and a copy of this.

It scored less than The Wonderful 101, which means you should all buy that too.
